Isaiah Washington Returns to "Grey's Anatomy"

ABC/Ron Tom(NEW YORK) -- As part of a two-part farewell to Sandra Oh's Dr. Cristina Yang on Grey's Anatomy, Isaiah Washington returned to the ABC medical drama Thursday night for the first time since his character left Oh's at the aisle.

Washington was fired from the show in 2007 after allegations he used a gay slur to describe then-co-star T.R. Knight, whose character has since been killed off.

On Thursday night, Oh's Dr. Yang was asked to Switzerland to see a cutting-edge medical facility that she later discovered is being run by her one-time fiancee, Washington's Dr. Preston Burke. He approached her with a proposal of another kind: while she thought he was trying to rekindle a relationship with her, he actually wanted her to take over for him so he can spend more time with his family.

Grey's Anatomy returns next Thursday, May 8 at 9 p.m. Eastern time on ABC.
