Jay Leno to Receive Kennedy Center's Mark Twain Prize for American Humor

Photo by Amanda Edwards/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Jay Leno is set to be receive the Kennedy Center's Mark Twain Prize for American Humor this fall, honoring the Tonight Show host with an award given to "this country's greatest comedians."

Leno became host of The Tonight Show in 1992 and was the face of the show for most of the next 22 years. He left the show in February 2014. He will receive the award in an October ceremony at the Kennedy Center Concert Hall.

The Mark Twain Prize has been given out annually by the Kennedy Center for the last 17 years. Past winners include Richard Pryor, Steve Martin, George Calin, Ellen DeGeneres and Lorne Michaels, among others.
