Jennifer Grey's OK with 'Dirty Dancing' Remake
Ron Wolfson/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Hard-core Dirty Dancing fans aren't happy about this week's news that a remake is in the works, but the film just received some significant support.
Jennifer Grey, who starred opposite the late Patrick Swayze in the 1987 original, tweeted Tuesday, “I love Kenny Ortega and trust that he will do something special [with the Dirty Dancing remake.]”
Later, she tweeted, "Blown away by all of the love expressed for #DirtyDancing. Makes me want to see it again. So grateful to have been a part of it."
Ortega, who oversaw the choreography for the original film, will direct the remake. More recently, he directed the hit High School Musical movie franchise, as well as the posthumous Michael Jackson concert film This It It.
The Wall Street Journal reports that Grey added via her publicist, “I’m so excited about this news and I think there’s nobody better to do this than my beloved Kenny Ortega, who is as responsible as anyone for the success of the first one. I can’t wait to see what he’s going to do with it.”
