Jimmy Fallon to Replace Jay Leno?

Paul Drinkwater/NBC(LOS ANGELES) -- Here we go again: there are new reports that late night host Jay Leno could be out again and replaced, this time, by NBC’s late, late night guy Jimmy Fallon.

According to the New York Daily News, the latest rumblings regarding Leno are coming from talent agents who say they have been contacted by NBC brass looking for a new host to take over Fallon’s 12:35 a.m. slot.

Leno’s rep declined to comment, while reps for Fallon and NBC did not respond immediately to ABC News’ request for comment.

Fallon, who has been patiently warming up in the wings, would presumably move up to the coveted Tonight Show spot when Leno’s contract expires in 2014.

The hitch, of course, would be if Leno did not go quietly.

The last time NBC tried to get the 62-year-old comedian to relinquish his seat to Conan O’Brien in 2009, he balked. So NBC carved out a 10 p.m. time slot for Leno, which flopped while pilfering viewers from O’Brien’s Tonight Show debut.

Within months, Leno was back on The Tonight Show and O’Brien was out, albeit with a nice severance. O’Brien eventually landed a late-night show on TBS.
