"Jimmy Kimmel Live!" Gets Ratings Lift from Kanye Appearance

ABC/Randy Holmes(NEW YORK) -- Jimmy Kimmel's feud with Kanye West certainly paid off for the ABC late-night host. The rapper's appearance on Kimmel's show Wednesday provided it with a nice ratings boost.

Early indications are Jimmy Kimmel Live! enjoyed its highest rating in the advertiser-coveted 18-to 49-year-old demographic -- not counting Kimmel's shows that followed ABC's NBA Finals coverage in June -- since moving to the 11:35 p.m. Eastern time slot last January.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kimmel's rating in the demo equaled the combined total for NBC's The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and CBS' Late Show with David Letterman.

The exact number of viewers who tuned in to Kimmel on Wednesday night has not yet been made available.

Kimmel came face to face with West two weeks after the temperamental rapper insulted the host on Twitter for mocking him in a sketch. The two rehashed their feud and made amends. West then spoke at length on various topics, such as how he considers himself to be a "creative genius," and how his partner, Kim Kardashian, deserves a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

With the Kanye brouhaha now behind him, Kimmel can focus on other things, like the award that Variety will present to him next month. The publication announced Thursday that Kimmel will be presented with its fourth annual Power of Comedy award in conjunction with a fundraiser to benefit women's cancer research. The event will be held November 16 in Hollywood.

The previous recipients of the award are Russell Brand, Amy Poehler and Seth MacFarlane.
