Leah Remini Thanks Media After Reported Split with Church

ABC/BOB D'AMICO(LOS ANGELES) -- Leah Remini has commented on her reported split from the Church of Scientology.

The Hollywood Reporter says the former King of Queens star issued a statement saying, “I wish to share my sincere and heartfelt appreciation for the overwhelming positive response I have received from the media, my colleagues and fans from around the world.  I am truly grateful and thankful for all your support.”

Remini has for years been one of Scientology's many famous followers, but a New York Post story on Thursday reported she was quitting over some of the religion's controversial practices.

An unnamed source says Remini underwent years of the church's "interrogations" and "thought modification," all for questioning the practices of the head of the church, David Miscavige.  Remini was reportedly, "...blacklisted within the church that she donated millions to and that her family has spent their lives in," for questioning Miscavige's tenure as leader, the paper's source claims.

Remini also was said to take issue with the treatment of the people in the church's SeaOrg group, who some sources say start working in their youth, put in 100 hour weeks, and reportedly sign contracts to serve the church for a billion years at a time.

When asked about the Remini story, a Church of Scientology representative told The Hollywood Reporter, “The Church respects the privacy of parishioners and has no comment about any individual Church member.”
