Toby Canham/Getty ImagesUPDATE: Lindsay Lohan was released from jail after serving only a few hours of her 30-day sentence behind bars.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed early Monday morning that the 25-year-old starlet was released.  Gossip website reported that Lohan was released at approximately 1:30 a.m. PT.

(LOS ANGELES) -- Lindsay Lohan began her jail sentence Sunday night for violating her probation in connection with previous DUI and theft convictions.

According to information posted on the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's website, Lohan turned herself in to the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, Calif., at 8:48 p.m. local time and was booked 10 minutes later.  A judge had ordered her to surrender by Wednesday.

The 25-year-old Mean Girls star isn't expected to serve her 30-day sentence in its entirety due to jail overcrowding.  The sheriff's department's website lists her projected release date as Nov. 16.

Lohan's probation was revoked on Oct. 19 following reports that she failed to meet her community service obligations at a Los Angeles women's center.
