(NEW YORK) -- The sassy subtitled 7-year-old Alana Thompson is back, along with one of the most popular moms in America, June “Mama” Shannon, in season two of the infamous show Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, as the self-proclaimed redneck family takes on new adventures.
In the new season you’ll see the family visit the White House, where Alana actually took home a small piece of President Obama’s belongings, or so she believes.
“Alana actually picked the White House grass, and between a rock and a flower she said, ‘I got Obama’s stuff now,’” Mama June said Monday on ABC’s Good Morning America, while reflecting on her family’s trip to the nation’s capital.
“I went in sixth grade, so I wanted my kids to experience it,” she added. “But it is humid up there! In Georgia it is humid, and we got gnats, but not as near humid as it is up here.”
Shannon wouldn’t confirm Monday on GMA whether the big ceremony she and longtime love, Mike “Sugar Bear” Thompson had in May was truly a wedding or not, but says the viewers will definitely find out on the show’s upcoming season.
“I will tell you it was unconventional. As you can see, I did not go with the white dress,” she explained. “You have to watch to see if it was a wedding or a commitment ceremony. We’re really looking forward to that.”
But the show’s new season isn’t the only thing Mama June and the rest of her clan have in store for their viewers. The family released a new book on July 9, How to Honey Boo Boo: The Complete Guide on how to Redneckognize the Honey Boo Boo in You, which little Alana had a big hand in creating.
“The fans have been asking a long time for a book, so we just decided we’d be able to do a book on what we do on a regular basis,” said Shannon. “Alana actually came up with the catch phrase, ‘Performed by a Redneck: Unless you’re a redneck, don’t try this at home.’”
And while not all their habits may be good, it’s this family’s unconventional love that kept 2.3 million viewers tuning in. Mama June, the self-proclaimed coupon queen, says she keeps her family grounded.
“That’s the big reason why Alana’s not here today,” Shannon said in Times Square. “We’ve been meeting a lot of fans on the road for the last 12 days. She [Alana] really loves New York, and she’s jealous because we’re staying in Times Square. But I want her to stay at home and enjoy being around kids and relax. I don’t want to wear her out.
“I want my kids to be kids. I don’t want them to be a robot and just perform when they’re needed to be performed, because we’re real. We are who we are. What you see is what you get.”
Season two of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo premieres Wednesday, July 17 on TLC.
