Meeting Between Justin Bieber and Israel's Prime Minister Nixed

ABC News Radio(JERUSALEM) -- Pop icon Justin Bieber is in Israel where he'll perform Thursday night. There was talk that he was going to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, but now that idea has been nixed under a cloud of controversy. Some say politics got in the way, but Bieber's reps say that has nothing to do with it.

A spokesman for the prime minister said Netanyahu wanted to invite kids from southern Israel who live under the threat of rocket fire from Gaza to meet Bieber, but that once the idea was brought up, the spokesman said the meeting "proved impossible." The implication is that Bieber didn't want to meet with these kids and perhaps take a political side. Reps for Bieber first said the meeting was canceled over logistics, then said they never pursued a meeting at all.
