"Modern Family" Returns Wednesday as Fall Premiere Week Continues

ABC/Bob D'Amico(NEW YORK) -- The first official week of the fall TV season rolls on Wednesday with plenty of new programming on ABC, including the return of the Emmy-winning comedy Modern Family.  CBS and NBC have also each scheduled the season premieres of two dramas.

Here's a rundown of the night's premieres.  All times Eastern:


  • The Middle, 8 p.m.: The Patricia Heaton comedy begins its fifth season with the family taking older son Axl to college.
  • Back in the Game, 8:30 p.m.: In the new comedy, Maggie Lawson plays a mother and former softball player who reluctantly agrees to coach a team of misfits.  James Caan also stars.
  • Modern Family, 9 p.m.: The Emmy winner for outstanding comedy series kicks off season five with an hour-long episode in which Phil and Claire try to arrange a week to themselves, with their kids engaged in summer activities.
  • Nashville, 10 p.m.: Connie Britton's Rayna is in a coma as the drama returns for its second season.


  • Criminal Minds, 9 p.m.: In the ninth-season premiere, the BAU is in Arizona as they attempt to search for a killer.
  • CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, 10 p.m.: Season 14 opens with the CSI team trying to track down the killer who kidnapped Morgan and Ellie Brass.


  • Revolution, 8 p.m.: The drama moves to a new night and time for its second season.  We learn the fallout from the crew turning on the power in last season's finale.
  • Law and Order: SVU, 9 p.m.: Mariska Hargitay's Detective Benson is kidnapped when season 15 gets underway.
