New Reality Show Could Feature Overweight Pets

iStock/Thinkstock(LOS ANGELES) -- Whether it's contestants looking for love or rich housewives mingling with the elite, there's no shortage of reality television shows out there. Now, producers are looking to bring pets into the mix with a proposed show for overweight animals.

A casting call posted on Craigslist is seeking applicants in chubby, even obese, dogs and cats. The post reads, "Does someone in your family feed your dog people food & now poor Fido is fat?...Does your beloved family pet's weight make it hard for it to breathe, run or play?"

The name of the proposed show isn't listed, but the request details it could be on "a major cable network." The call also appears on a casting and production website from casting director Tara-Anne Johnson. Requirements include the pudgy pet's weight history and story as well as a photo of the owner and animal.

The posting on Johnson's Facebook page garnered dozens of likes and comments from users suggesting the audition to friends and family or sharing brief descriptions of their pets.

One user responded, "I have a ten pound Chihuahua, she don't walk, she waddles."
