Paul Shaffer Leaving Late Night?

Jim Spellman/WireImage(NEW YORK) -- Paul Shaffer is apparently looking to pack it in as David Letterman's long-serving musical director/sidekick when his contract expires, according to an interview with TV Guide Canada.

"We've been on 30 years so now we've got another two years," says Shaffer. "I'm going to be certainly ready to lie down after that, take a nap."

The musician's mind is apparently not made up just yet, however.

"[L]ife is nutty -- anything can happen," the Late Show with David Letterman mainstay admits. "I've been so lucky and blessed to be working this long in show business. And whatever happens now is just gravy to me."
