Plaxico Burress to be Released From Prison on Monday

STAN HONDA/AFP/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Former New York Giants player Plaxico Burress was on Sunday counting down the hours to becoming a free man, as he is scheduled to be released from prison on Monday.

Burress, who has been imprisoned since September 2009, is set to leave the Oneida Correctional Facility in New York sometime between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. Monday, according to a report by the New York Daily News. Burress was convicted on weapons charges, following an incident in November 2008, in which he suffered an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound to the leg at a Manhattan nightclub.

Burress’ agent, Drew Rosenhaus, commented on Twitter about his client’s release saying: “I'm excited about Plax's release Monday. He'll be a highly sought after free agent once the lockout is over. He's in great shape & healthy.”

Burress plans to return to playing football professionally following his release.
