Production on "Fifty Shades of Grey" Movie Delayed

WILL OLIVER/AFP/GettyImages(LOS ANGELES) -- Is there a chance the Fifty Shades of Grey movie will not open as scheduled next August?  Perhaps, after the studios behind the project were forced to replace its lead male star.

Universal Pictures and Focus Features had announced that production on the film would begin on Nov. 1.  However, the start date has been pushed back a full month, to Dec. 2, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The reason: Charlie Hunnam dropped out of his role as billionaire Christian Grey earlier this month.  The studios replaced him last week with Jamie Dornan, who will star opposite Dakota Johnson.  She's been cast as college student Anastasia Steele.

Given the delay in production, it's possible that the adaptation of E.J. James' erotic bestseller won't be completed in time for its current release date of Aug. 1, 2014.
