Samuel L. Jackson Wants In for "Star Wars: Episode VII"

Ilya S. Savenok/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- The last moviegoers saw of Samuel L. Jackson's character Jedi Master Mace Windu in Star Wars: Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith, he had his hand chopped off by Anakin Skywalker and then was electrocuted and blown out of a high window thanks to a blast of Sith lighting from the hands of Darth Sidious.

But this isn't stopping Jackson from wanting to be a part of producer/director J.J. Abrams' upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII.  Despite the fact that the film is set more than 30 years after Windu's window fall, Jackson told David Letterman on Wednesday night's Late Show that he's doing his darnedest to get back into that galaxy far, far away.

Jackson recalled he was recently shooting a film in London with none other than the actor who played Luke Skywalker -- and who was rumored to be returning for VII.

"I'm in the film with Mark Hamill, so I ask Mark if he'd heard from J.J. Abrams, he said, 'No,'" Jackson said.

Another run-in with a former prequel co-star also turned up nothing.

"All of a sudden Ewan [McGregor] was there and I spoke to him on the phone and I asked if him if he was there doing Star Wars and he goes, 'No, they didn't call me.'  So, I was thinking all three of us could just get together and go over to the Star Wars set one day and just kinda stand around, and see if maybe, you know, they could use some old Jedi," Jackson said.

Undeterred, the actor said, "I heard on television, that they were auditioning people for Star Wars and I said maybe we should go to the audition and see if we could get a job."

Promoting himself wasn't out of the question either: Jackson confessed, "I pretty much hinted to J.J. that I wanted to be in the film at George Lucas' wedding and he was kinda like 'Hmmm.'"
