"Scandal" Creator Hosts Kerry Washington's Baby Shower

ABC/Rick Rowell(LOS ANGELES) -- Scandal creator Shonda Rhimes opened up her home on Sunday to host a baby shower for series star Kerry Washington.

Guest Jane Fonda blogged about the afternoon where some 50 guests, including Scandal co-star Darby Stanchfield, Cicely Tyson and Diahann Carroll, were in attendance.

"I hadn’t seen Kerry since she was pregnant and as soon as I saw her with her gorgeous belly I starting crying," Fonda wrote. "Then Kerry’s mother spoke, giving words of wisdom to Kerry and the rest of us about how to raise a baby to be a happy, fully realized, person. I started crying again (and it wasn’t because I wanted to go back and do my own raising of my own kids all over again with more wisdom, though that did press in on me)... it was because her words moved me."

According to E! News, the baby shower was held on Rhimes' back lawn under a tent set up next to her pool. Guests toasted the mother-to-be with lemonade and wine before she opened her presents, which included stuffed animals, potted flowers, gift baskets and, of course, baby clothes.

"Kerry looked ecstatic to be surrounded by so many family members and friends," a source told E! "She loved mixing her work friends with her family and having everyone get to know each other. Shonda was very gracious to host everyone and Kerry was very appreciative."

"She felt so loved she didn't want the day to end," the source continued. "She gave Shonda a huge hug and kiss before thanking her and leaving with her mom."

Washington is reportedly now seven months pregnant. It will be her first child. She wed her husband, former NFL player Nnamdi Asomugha, last June.

ABC's Scandal returns on Thursday, Feb. 27, at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
