Singer Teena Marie Dead at 54

Photo Courtesy - Getty/Wire Images(LOS ANGELES) -- Grammy-nominated R&B singer Teena Marie, who scored a hit in 1984 with Lovergirl reportedly died Saturday night at her Pasadena, California home at the age of 54. A cause of death is not yet known.

Her publicist tells CNN that Marie suffered a grand mal seizure a month ago. Teena Marie, whose birth name was Mary Christine Brockert, signed with Motown Records in 1976 and released her debut album, "Wild and Peaceful", three years later.

That disc included the songs I’m a Sucker For Your Love and Déjà Vu (I’ve Been Here Before). The Rick James Protégée enjoyed success with the single Lovergirl, which peaked at number four on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Her 13th and most recent studio album, Congo Square, was released last year. Teena Marie had a handful of tour dates lined up for early 2011, including a stop in Atlanta on New Year's Day.
