"Skyfall" Director Sam Mendes Returning for "Bond 24"

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures/Columbia Pictures/EON Productions(NEW YORK) -- Skyfall director Sam Mendes will return to direct the next James Bond adventure.

Daniel Craig had already been contracted to return as the suave secret agent, but after Skyfall's $1.1 billion box office haul, producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli were eager to secure Mendes' return.

Skyfall is the highest-grossing entry in the 007 franchise, and the eighth-highest-grossing film of all time.

The filmmaker released a joint statement with studios MGM and Sony Pictures on Thursday: "I am very pleased that by giving me the time I need to honor all my theatre commitments, the producers have made it possible for me to direct Bond 24."

Mendes added, "I very much look forward to taking up the reins again, and to working with Daniel Craig, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli for a second time."

screenwriter John Logan will also return for the 24th 007 adventure, set to release in the U.S. on Nov. 6, 2015.
