(LOS ANGELES) -- A spokesperson for the Backstreet Boys has confirmed a TMZ.com report that AJ McLean has gone into rehab. In a statement provided to ABC News Radio, AJ said, "For personal reasons, I've checked myself into a rehab clinic. With 2011 being a busy year for Backstreet, I want to be healthy and perfom and sing for people at my very best and happiest."
Noting that Backstreet and New Kids on the Block are launching a joint tour later this year, AJ continued, "None of this will affect our current tour plans and I look forward to seeing everyone really soon!"
AJ has struggled with addiction before -- in fact, he entered rehab in 2001 to battle cocaine addiction, alcoholism and depression after the rest of the group staged an intervention. He referred to his current troubles on Twitter this past weekend, when he wrote on January 9th, "I love you all and wish me luck! I start my sober journey tomorrow!" On Jan. 10, he wrote, "See u on the other side!"
