Playing Porn Star Made Amanda Seyfried 'Comfortable in Own Skin'

Dale Robinette/Sundance(NEW YORK) -- Though she keeps her clothes on for Allure magazine’s annual nude issue, actress Amanda Seyfried is uncensored when it comes to talking about her body and preparing for her role as Deep Throat star Linda Lovelace.

“Maybe this is backwards, but because she found the power in herself and in her body at a point, it made me feel comfortable in my own skin in a way that I hadn’t been,” Seyfried told Allure of playing the porn star. “I’ve got parts of me that I wish were tighter, but I don’t kill myself, because it’s not worth it.”

For one thing, the 27-year-old actress no longer considers her breasts “sacks of fat,” as she once referred to them in an interview.

“Actually, I saw a picture a couple of days ago from when I was 19, and my boobs were way bigger. They were a D, and now they’re a small C, because I lost weight,” she told Allure. “There was something so beautiful about the size of them. When I look back, I’m like, ‘Why did I always give myself such a hard time?’”

She also used her experience playing Lovelace to improve her singing performance for Les Miserables.

Seyfried said she imagined “deep-throating” to “get that feeling in the back of your throat, and then sing. That’s where your larynx is.”

While Seyfried did not disrobe for the magazine’s May issue, on sale April 22, four television actresses — Naya Rivera, Jennifer Morrison, Christa Miller and Clare Bowen — did get naked for famed photographer Patrick Demarchelier.

Rivera, who plays lesbian cheerleader Santana Lopez on Glee, told Allure that she’s finally comfortable in her own skin.

She was skinnier when she worked at a previous job at Hooters, she said, but “always self-conscious.”

“It’s so funny now to feel completely different,” she added.

Glee has made her something of a sex symbol in the lesbian community.

“It’s kind of cool,” she said. “I get more girls than my boyfriend.”

Fame Stirs Anxiety, Panic Attacks for Amanda Seyfried

Uri Schanker/Wireimage/Getty Images(LONDON) -- The constant glare of fame’s spotlight has apparently gotten to Dear John actress Amanda Seyfried.

In a recent interview with British Glamour magazine, the 25-year-old star reported that she's been having panic attacks, and is seeing a therapist to treat them.

“[Therapy] has been such a great tool...I still do get terribly nervous, and that’s partly due to the fact [that] I think too much and overanalyze things,” she told the magazine. “I’ll start worrying about my parents or my dog, and I’ll picture him opening the window of my apartment and falling out, even though I can’t get that thing open myself.”

Ordinary panic becomes a disorder when the attacks are recurring and severe.

Seyfried cited the increased attention she garnered while dating actor Ryan Phillippe as contributing to her anxiety.

Of course, Seyfried isn’t the only celeb to become panic-stricken in the face of celebrity -- ABC News has reported on a number of stars who have admitted to experiencing  obsessive compulsive disorder, another form of anxiety. Charlize Theron, Alec Baldwin, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Jessica Alba, and Leonardo DiCaprio have all admitted to having OCD or OCD tendencies.

Stephen Whiteside, a psychologist at the Mayo Clinc in Rochester, Minn., who specializes in anxiety disorders including OCD, told ABC News in 2009 that there’s no research to support the idea that celebrities might be particularly predisposed to OCD, but that it makes sense that those with the disorder would be high achievers.

“It would make sense that people with these types of traits can be highly successful,” he told ABC. “And celebrities are highly successful people.”
