(NEW YORK) -- Clarice Taylor, the woman who played Dr. Cliff Huxtable's mother on The Cosby Show, died on Monday aged 93.
According to People magazine, Taylor succumbed to heart failure and was surrounded by family at her passing.
Taylor was an original member of the Negro Ensemble Company in New York City. She appeared alongside Clint Eastwood in Play Misty For Me and in the original Broadway production of The Wiz.
Taylor played Harriet for 14 years on Sesame Street and also appeared in Sanford and Son among other shows. However, it was her role on the 1980's The Cosby Show which garnered her national attention culminating in an Emmy nomination in 1986 for her performance in the award-winning show. Taylor played Anna Huxtable alongside Earle Hyman as parents to Bill Cosby's character Dr. Heathcliff Huxtable and grandparents to the Huxtable family.
