Oscar Winner Anne Hathaway Answers Critics

Fred Duval/FilmMagic(LOS ANGELES) -- Anne Hathaway may have won the approval of the Academy on Oscar night with her supporting actress win, but so-called “Hathahaters” are criticizing the star’s authenticity.

In what was seen as a stereotypical Oscar win moment, Hathaway cried, “It came true!” as she accepted her award on Sunday.  Us Weekly reports that she rehearsed her speech a lot after backlash over her Golden Globe, SAG and BAFTA acceptance speeches.

At the Golden Globe Awards for instance, the Les Miserables star called her award “a weapon of self-doubt.”

Hathaway addressed the jokes that were made about her emotional speeches. She told Us Weekly, “It does get to me. But you have to remember in life that there’s a positive to every negative and a negative to every positive.”

She tried to win over the haters in her Oscar speech, but expressed that even with all of the criticism, “I live my life with love. I live my life with compassion. I live my life hoping the best for absolutely everyone, no matter how they feel about me. And when you live that way, it’s amazing how beautiful every day can be.”

Anne Hathaway 'Unemployed,' Plans to Nest with Husband and Dog

Fred Duval/FilmMagic(LOS ANGELES) -- It’s official.  Anne Hathaway is out of work.

When asked about her next project following her Screen Actors Guild Award for her role in Les Miserables, Hathaway told Access Hollywood, "I had a film lined up that we'd taken a breath on, so I'm unemployed."

"It's such a funny experience to sort of be here and be in some ways at the pinnacle of what you can achieve as an actor, but also know that you don't have a job," Hathaway said.

The actress plans to spend most of her off time with her jewelry designer husband Adam Shuleman.

In her acceptance speech, Hathaway only briefly mentioned her spouse, saying, "I'll tell you why I love you later."  She later explained that she was running out of time and could have “gone on about him” for hours.

The actress says the couple plans to host lots of dinners at their home and just hang out.

“We're nesting, playing with my dog -- we're chilling," says Hathaway.

Anne Hathaway Says She Lacks ‘Sex Appeal’

Harper's Bazaar(NEW YORK) -- Anne Hathaway strikes a glamorous pose on the latest cover of Harper’s Bazaar’s U.K. edition, but she certainly doesn’t consider herself sexy.

The 30-year-old actress says she can't compare herself to a certain pop diva. “I’m not Rihanna,” she said in the February issue. “I’m not cool. When people come to me in the street, they often want a hug not a photo, and they want that because they like my work.”

“For a long time it was me and [my manager] against the world,” the Les Miserables star said. “I was seen as this bizarre-world, good-girl cartoon that I in no way identified with – very vanilla, very sweet, very accessible and not interesting. I had no grit, no sex appeal.”

This isn’t the first time Hathaway has waxed over her looks.

In the January issue of Glamour magazine, the actress revealed that her obsession with being thin is a source of “shame” and said she constantly worries about her body.

“I still feel the stress over, ‘Am I thin enough? Am I too thin? Is my body the right shape?’” she says. “There’s an obsessive quality to it that I thought I would’ve grown out of by now. It’s an ongoing source of shame for me.”

Anne Hathaway Was 'Obsessive' About Weight Loss for "Les Miserables"

Fred Duval/FilmMagic(LOS ANGELES) -- Anne Hathaway had to endure a dramatic transformation -- chopping off her long brown locks and losing 20 pounds -- for her role as Fantine in Les Miserables, due in theaters next month.

In a revealing interview in the December issue of Vogue, the 29-year-old actress admits that she was extremely disciplined about weight loss -- at one point only eating two squares of oatmeal paste per day.

"I had to be obsessive about it.  The idea was to look near death," Hathaway said in Vogue.  "Looking back on the whole experience -- and I don't judge it in any way -- it was definitely a little nuts.  It was definitely a break with reality, but I think that’s who Fantine is anyway."

"I was in such a state of deprivation -- physical and emotional.  When I got home, I couldn't react to the chaos of the world without being overwhelmed," Hathaway admitted.  "It took me weeks 'til I felt like myself again."

The actress, who is already getting Oscar buzz for her role, said the other part of her transformation -- the hair loss -- was a breeze in comparison.

"I love the short-haired lifestyle," she said.  "It's awesome that I was able to go for a hike right before I came here to meet you, quickly wash my hair, and now it's dry."

Les Miserables
hits theaters on Christmas Day.

Anne Hathaway Ties the Knot ANGELES) -- Oscar-nominated actress Anne Hathaway has tied the knot with actor-jewelry designer Adam Shulman.

More than 100 guests watched Hathaway and her beau of four years exchange vows at a private estate in scenic Big Sur, Calif., on Saturday night, People Magazine reported.

The actress wore a gown by her close friend, Valentino Garavani, who earlier this month revealed he would be designing a dress for the actress’ nuptials.

The 29-year-old actress and Shulman announced their engagement last November.

Hathaway began dating the “mellow” Shulman, 31, following the messy end of her four-year romance with Italian entrepreneur Raffaello Follieri in 2008. Follieri pleaded guilty in September 2008 to swindling investors out of millions in an elaborate con in which he posed as a real estate consultant for the Vatican.

Understandably, Hathaway eased into her next relationship.

“We hit it off immediately, but it took us a pretty long time to get together,” Hathaway told Vogue. Once they realized they were both single, she said, “things sped up a bit — and I think I’ll leave it at that.”

“So far, it’s worked out great,” the actress and last year’s Oscar host told Harper’s Bazaar, adding that Shulman was far more “mellow” than previous boyfriends.

“Mellow doesn’t always make for a good story, but it makes for a good life,” she said.

"Batman" Stars Reflect, Look Forward to "Dark Knight Rises"

Warner Bros. Pictures/TM and DC Comics Photo by Ron Phillips(LOS ANGELES) -- On July 20, director Christopher Nolan's groundbreaking Batman series comes to a close with the release of The Dark Knight Rises.  The blockbuster series has been praised by comic fans and non-fans alike, and introduced a new generation to Bob Kane's classic Caped Crusader.

At a press conference for the film in Los Angeles on Sunday, Batman himself, Christian Bale, called the moment "bittersweet," knowing that he's promised he won't don the cape and cowl again without Nolan.

"He's saying it's time to say goodbye," Bale said, "so it's time to say goodbye."

Nolan -- who on Saturday became only the eighth director in Hollywood history to add his hand and footprints to the collection at Grauman's Chinese Theater -- explained choosing the comic bad guy Bane as The Dark Knight Rises' villain was a direct result of the late Heath Ledger's Oscar-winning performance as The Joker.

"[W]e wanted a very different villain for this. ...I wasn't going to set out to try and in some way better what Heath had done," the filmmaker said.

In fact, the Gotham City villain isn't even mentioned in The Dark Knight Rises.

"I took the decision early on that it would be inappropriate," Nolan said.  "I felt that, you know, someone who was a friend and a colleague had suffered a terrible tragedy, and to try to reduce that to a plot point in a fictional universe felt wrong to me."

As for series newcomer Anne Hathaway, who plays Catwoman, she said she "got a chill" when she saw herself suited up with her fellow in-the-flesh comic co-stars.  But as the only female, she had another challenge ahead of her: fighting in very high heels.

"It's part of being a woman," she joked.  "The Devil Wears Prada was really good training for that...I kind of ran up and down I just ran up and down Gotham."
