Arnold Schwarzenegger Returns to Bodybuilding Roots

ABC/Fred Lee(NEW YORK) -- Arnold Schwarzenegger will be flexing his editorial muscle as group executive editor of two bodybuilding magazines.

The former governor of California has re-joined the masthead at Muscle & Fitness and Flex magazines, where he will contribute monthly columns and provide strategic and creative input.

The re-partnering was announced Friday by American Media Inc., which owns both magazines.

In 1968, a 21-year-old Schwarzenegger was made the face of bodybuilding by his mentor and owner of the magazines, Joe Wieder. Schwarzenegger has since appeared on the cover of both publications more than 60 times.

The Terminator star had to resign from his gig at the publications when he was elected governor of California in 2003.

“It was in these magazines that I found the spark that inspired me to start lifting weights, and eventually move to America and realize my dreams, and I’m proud to return as executive editor,” Schwarzenegger said in a statement.  “Bodybuilding has always been part of my life, and I know Muscle & Fitness and Flex will continue to motivate others — as it did me — to lift weights and lead a healthy lifestyle, promote the sport of bodybuilding, and, as Joe used to say in every issue, ‘exceed themselves’.”

Schwarzenegger has kept busy starring in action movies since leaving office. He most recently appeared in The Last Stand.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Hoping to Reconcile with Maria Shriver

Chelsea Lauren/FilmMagic(NEW YORK) -- Arnold Schwarzenegger isn't prepared to move on after his wife, Maria Shriver, filed for divorce last year.

The Last Stand star reportedly has told a German newspaper, Bild, that he still loves Shriver.  He is quoted as saying, "We're not fighting any war: I still hope for reconciliation; I still love Maria."

He noted that he spent Christmas with Shriver and their four children.

Shriver filed for divorce after 25 years of marriage, two months after Schwarzenegger's admission that he'd had multiple affairs, including one with a member of his household staff that produced a child.

Schwarzenegger's latest film, The Last Stand, flopped at the box office over the weekend.  He reportedly has told Britain's The Sun that he will star in a fifth Terminator film.

Celebrities Split Ahead of the Holidays

Jeffrey Hamilton/Digital Vision(NEW YORK) -- It’ll be a less than merry holiday season for at least one famous couple. Just before Christmas, Bethenny Frankel and husband Jason Hoppy announced they’re calling it quits after almost three years of marriage.

“It brings me great sadness to say that Jason and I are separating,” the reality TV star and entrepreneur said in a statement Sunday. “This was an extremely difficult decision that as a woman and a mother, I have to accept as the best choice for our family.”

“We have love and respect for one another and will continue to amicably co-parent our daughter who is and will always remain our first priority,” she added. “This is an immensely painful and heartbreaking time for us.”

Frankel, 42, created the Skinnygirl line of cocktail and nutrition products. She shot to fame as a cast member of “The Real Housewives of New York,” and her marriage to Hoppy was documented on Bravo’s “Bethenny Getting Married” and “Bethenny Ever After.”

Their marriage had been rumored to be on the rocks for months. In July, Frankel told People that putting her family on reality TV strained her relationship, saying “The second year of marriage was not easy. We hit bottom, [but] we came out the other side.”

“I’m done with putting my personal life and family on reality television,” she added. “I went all the way, and I think it may be enough.”

Instead, she said she’s bent on becoming a talk show host. Her daytime talk show, “Bethenny,” is expected to debut nationwide next year.

Meanwhile, Ashton Kutcher pushed forward his divorce from Demi Moore days before Christmas. Kutcher, 34, filed divorce papers in Los Angeles Superior Court Friday, citing irreconcilable differences. The couple separated more than a year ago, and both have moved on — according to People, Kutcher’s spending the holidays with new girlfriend Mila Kunis in his Iowa hometown.

Another estranged couple nearly crossed paths while wrapping up Christmas shopping. According to TMZ, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver missed each other by minutes in the racks of Neiman Marcus in Beverly Hills, Calif. They have yet to officially divorce, and rumors of a reconciliation have swirled for months. Time will tell if a Christmas miracle is in the works.

Arnold Schwarzenegger's Tell-All Sales Sag

ABC/Fred Lee(LOS ANGELES) -- Arnold Schwarzenegger made the media rounds to promote his book Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story, but Nielsen Bookscan numbers quoted by The Hollywood Reporter show all the publicity didn't help sales much.

The book details not only Schwarzenegger's career as a bodybuilder, action star and California governor, but also the affair with his former housekeeper that led to the birth of a son.  However, for all its supposedly juicy revelations, the book only managed to sell 21,000 copies in the week after its Oct. 1 release.

By comparison, the trade notes, No Easy Day, a Navy SEAL's account of the mission to find Osama bin Laden sold 254,000 copies in its first week.  JK Rowlings' first non-Harry Potter book, Casual Vacancy, sold 350,000 copies in just six days.

Arnold Schwarzenegger on Affair: ‘Worst Thing I’ve Ever Done’

ABC News(NEW YORK) -- “It’s just one of the disastrous situations I’ve created and the worst thing that I’ve ever done,” former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger told ABC's George Stephanopoulos Monday on Good Morning America when asked about his affair with the housekeeper who he fathered a child with and kept hidden from his wife for years.

“It hurt so many people and the mistakes and failures I’ve had in the past, and I write about all of them in the book…But this is the worst because it has affected so many people,” he said.

The affair with Mildred Baena occurred in 1996, according to Schwarzenegger’s new autobiography Total Recall, when Maria Shriver and their children were away.  The following August, Baena gave birth to Joseph, but it wasn’t until the boy was older that Schwarzenegger saw the resemblance.

“While Mildred and I barely discussed it, from then on I paid for his schooling and helped financially with him and her other kids,” Schwarzenegger writes.

Shriver asked her husband if Joseph was his son years earlier, but he denied it.  She again confronted Schwarzenegger about Joseph the morning after he left the governor’s office in January 2011, he writes.  This time he admitted to the indiscretion.

Shriver filed for divorce in July 2011.

When asked why he didn’t tell his wife about the affair earlier, Schwarzenegger said he didn’t know how.

“I was just, I think, too scared about losing everything, too scared about losing her, losing the family and I just didn’t know how,” he said.

Schwarzenegger told Stephanopoulos he continued to employ Baena as housekeeper because he thought it would make the situation worse if he fired her.

“It’s worse when you start getting rid of people because it’s kind of like punishing somebody for being in this situation so that’s the best way that I could have handled it,” he said on GMA.

The former governor said he sees Joseph as a son, and takes care of him and his mother financially.

Schwarzenegger’s book is out Monday.  But despite writing an autobiography, he said he doesn’t like looking backwards and described writing about the affair as “painful but necessary.”

“When you look at the whole thing it was just so horrible, what it did to the kids, what it did to my wife, because they are really fantastic,” he said.

The biggest lesson he learned, he said, that “one stupid mistake that maybe you think is good, that moment can really destroy a lot of things and can hurt a lot of people that don’t deserve to be hurt like that.”

“I mean, Maria does not deserve to be hurt like that and nor do the kids and nor do everyone in the extended family so everyone has been hurt but I’m trying to rebuild all that,” he said.

But Schwarzenegger acknowledges repairing those relationships will take time.

“I’ve had a good relationship with the kids and I’ve had a very good relationship with Maria but it takes time to rebuild the trust and everything and I’m doing everything I can to work on that because I want them back together again because I think we were such a terrific family and just because of my doing and doing this stupid thing, I got into the situation that I’m in,” he said.

And as for a reconciliation with Shriver?

“Maybe Maria doesn’t say that, but I’m sure that Maria wishes that we could all be together and I definitely wish that we could all be together,” Schwarzenegger said.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Says Affair Was 'The Stupidest Thing' He's Done

Chris Weeks/FilmMagic(NEW YORK) -- Arnold Schwarzenegger tells CBS' 60 Minutes that his affair with a housekeeper who later gave birth to his out-of-wedlock son was "terrible" and "the stupidest thing” he did during his marriage to Maria Shriver.

In an interview that aired Sunday on CBS' 60 Minutes, correspondent Lesley Stahl questioned the actor and former governor of California about the affair, asking, "She gave up her television career for you...was this just the most unbelievable act of betrayal to Maria?"

"I think it was the stupidest thing I've done in the whole relationship," the 65-year-old Schwarzenegger said of his affair with housekeeper Mildred Baena.  "It was terrible.  I inflicted tremendous pain on Maria and unbelievable pain on the kids."

Schwarzenegger opens up about the affair in a new autobiography set to hit shelves on Monday called, Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life.

His ex-wife Shriver hasn't read the book, according to Schwarzenegger.

“She knows that it's about my whole life and that I would not write a book and kind of leave out that part and make people feel like, ‘Well, wait a minute.  Are we just getting a book about his success stories and not talk about his failures?" he said.  "I wanted to write a book about me."

Arnold Schwarzenegger Dishes on Relationship with Maria Shriver

Chris Weeks/FilmMagic(LOS ANGELES) -- Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver may not be getting back together, but the actor and former governor of California tells Entertainment Tonight they get along "really well."

During an interview on the set of his upcoming film, The Tomb, the 64-year-old Schwarzenegger said, "We get along really well," adding, "We have a great time raising the kids together...The most important thing is that the kids are doing well, and Maria always has been an extraordinary mother and always has worked with the kids very closely."

In May 2011, the couple's 25-year marriage was terminated when Schwarzenegger admitted that he'd secretly fathered a child with their former housekeeper.  Shriver filed a divorce petition two months later, but has yet to finalize it.

The Tomb is due in theaters in 2013.

Schwarzenegger, Shriver Not Reuniting: Source

Chris Weeks/FilmMagic(LOS ANGELES) -- Rumors have been swirling about a possible reconciliation for Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver, following their separation in May of last year. Both Schwarzenegger and Shriver have been spotted wearing jewelry on their ring fingers, fueling speculation that they’re reconsidering their divorce.

However, ABC News has learned that’s not the case, and we shouldn’t be expecting a reunion. It turns out the big ring Maria’s been wearing on her left hand was her mother’s engagement ring.

A source told ABC that Shriver has had the ring, once Eunice Shriver’s engagement ring, for about two years, and has been wearing it off and on since then.

The source says there’s no reconciliation in the future for Shriver and the former California governor. The couple separated after 25 years of marriage following revelations that Schwarzenegger had had an affair with one of his employees, and fathered a son with her.
