(NEW YORK) -- Remember the futuristic, power-lace Nike sneakers worn by Michael J. Fox's character in the 1989 film Back to the Future Part II? Well, you now have the opportunity to own a similar pair.
Nike announced Thursday that it will auction 1,500 pairs of the "2011 NIKE MAG," based on the sneakers in Fox's film. The actor appeared on CBS' Late Show with David Letterman Thursday night to unveil the sneakers.
The sneakers are said to be a precise replica of the pair worn by Fox's Marty McFly in Back to the Future Part II when he visited the year 2015, though it doesn't have power laces like its movie counterpart. They illuminate for five hours per charge when the wearer pinches the shoes' "ears."
The auction began Thursday night on eBay, with 150 pairs up for grabs each day through Sept. 18. Proceeds will benefit The Michael J. Fox Foundation, which seeks a cure for Parkinson's disease, an ailment the actor has battled for years. Google founder Sergey Brin and his wife have offered to match donations from the sales of the sneakers up to $50 million through the end of 2012.
