(LOS ANGELES) -- Actress Barbara Billingsley, best known for her role as June Cleaver in the sitcom Leave It To Beaver, died Saturday. She was 94.
As June Cleaver, Billingsley exemplified the perfect, pearl-wearing stay-at-home mom -- a post-war cultural standard -- and the Cleaver family became a generation’s ideal.
Off-screen, she was married three times and spent part of her career not as a stay-at-home mom, but as a single mother to two boys.
After Beaver went off the air, Billingsley saw few acting roles, but her career was revived in 1980, when she appeared in the comedic film, Airplane.
