(LOS ANGELES) -- Paris Hilton's younger brother Barron Hilton has been ordered by Los Angeles County Superior Court to pay $4.9 million to a former gas station attendant he struck with his Mercedes-Benz in 2008, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Mr. Hilton, who was 18 at the time of the incident, was sued by Fernando Tellez, a gas station attendant working at a station on the Pacific Coast Highway. Eyewitnesses said Barron allegedly drove in the wrong direction for miles down the highway and struck Tellez with his vehicle when he pulled into the station.
Hilton's blood-alcohol level was a .14 percent and he was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Barron later pleaded no contest to the charges.
Tellez's attorney, Joseph M. Kar, claimed his client suffered "permanent disability" and was forced to "undergo multiple surgeries and medical procedures" as a result of the accident. Kar added that the accident “destroyed” Tellez’s family and “his ability to provide for his family.”
