Sky's the Limit for Weekend Box Office Favorite

Comstock Images/Thinkstock(LOS ANGELES) -- The Bradley Cooper flick about a guy popping smart pills won the weekend at the box office.

Limitless brought in an estimated $19 million, much better than was expected for the film, which has a B+ rating from CinemaScore.

The rest of the top five were closely bunched together in estimated earnings, falling in the $13-15 million range. Rango continues to show strength, coming in second, followed by Battle: Los Angeles and two debuts -- Matthew McConaughey's The Lincoln Lawyer and Seth Rogen's Paul.

Weekend Box Office: One Alien Movie Kills, Another Flops

Comstock Images/Thinkstock(LOS ANGELES) -- In the battle at the box office, one film demolished the competition. Battle: Los Angeles beat the other movies and expectations, pulling in an estimated $36 million, $9 million more than some predicted. The alien invasion movie didn't get great reviews from critics, but is averaging a B rating from moviegoers, according to CinemaScore.

The animated Johnny Depp lizard western Rango held strong in its second week, coming in second, followed by Red Riding Hood and The Adjustment Bureau.

It was a disappointing opening for Mars Needs Moms. It's fifth place, estimated $7 million was $10 million less than some had predicted.
