Discovery Channel Fires 'Man vs. Wild’s' Bear Grylls

Discovery Channel(LOS ANGELES) -- Man vs. Wild star Bear Grylls has been fired from the Discovery Channel over a “continuing contractual dispute,” the channel said.

The 37-year-old British TV personality has been with The Discovery Channel since 2006, when Man vs. Wild premiered.

“Due to a continuing contractual dispute with Bear Grylls, Discovery has terminated all current productions with him,” a Discovery spokesperson told ABC News.

Grylls was fired after he refused to participate in two unannounced projects he was contracted for, sources told The Hollywood Reporter.

Grylls has been filmed crossing piranha-infested rivers, stranded in the deadly swamps of the Florida Everglades, paragliding onto the edge of the Andes to follow rivers into the Ecuadorean jungle and demonstrating how to make a snow cave, find water in deep tunnels and avoid frostbite in Iceland’s arctic environment.

Grylls’ representative could not be reached for comment.

Jake Gyllenhaal Gets 'Wild' with Bear Grylls

ABC/RANDY HOLMES(NEW YORK) -- Discovery's hit Man Vs. Wild is getting some more star power this year, starting with its seventh season premiere on July 11.

Jake Gyllenhaal joined host Bear Grylls on a bone-chilling trip to Iceland, and now, fans of both stars can enjoy a sneak peek, thanks to a clip airing on Discovery's website.  The pair can be seen digging a shelter in the middle of a blizzard, ripping meat from an animal carcass, and crossing a huge mountain gap by commando-crawling along a thin cable.

Recently, Grylls said Bad Teacher star Cameron Diaz is committed to joining him on one of his survival adventures.  The first celebrity to follow the former British Special Forces soldier into the wild was Will Ferrell in 2009.

Gyllenhaal's episode airs Monday, July 11 at 9 p.m. ET on Discovery.
