Billy Ray Cyrus Wants Miley to Be Happy

VALERIE MACON/AFP/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Miley Cyrus' family is recovering from a difficult 2010, which saw mom Tish and dad Billy Ray split amid reports of infidelity, and Miley get caught smoking the hallucinogenic herb salvia on a video that went viral.  However, it appears the family's working hard to put things back together.

In a new interview in Parade Magazine, Billy Ray opens up about his daughter, with whom he recently reconciled after a rough patch.  He says, "My wish for her is to be happy. To love what she's doing. We've always had a slogan in our family: 'If you ain't happy, it ain't working.' You need to love what you're doing. As long as she's happy and loving making music -- and I know she loves acting -- that's all that matters."

Billy Ray continues, "I pray the same for Miley as I pray for my other kids -- that they live their life with purpose knowing that it's about giving back and finding out what you can do in this world to hopefully make it a better place."

Cyrus is trying to do some damage control after he told GQ magazine that Hannah Montana destroyed his family.  He also said he was concerned about daughter Miley because of the people who are surrounding her.

Billy Ray Cyrus tells People, "It is very important to me to work on mending my family right now."  While admitting his remarks were "explosive and unintentionally so," Cyrus added, "My family is the most important thing I have, and we are working together to make sure our future is stronger and healthier.  It is all a learning process, and we thank everyone for their support and respect of our privacy as we sort through very important family issues."

Billy Ray Cyrus: 'Hannah Montana' 'Destroyed My Family'

Photo Courtesy - Walt Disney Records(NEW YORK) -- No amount of fame and fortune is worth the trouble that came with Hannah Montana.  That's what Billy Ray Cyrus says about daughter Miley starring in the hit Disney show.

He tells GQ he wishes Hannah Montana had never come into their lives, adding, "I hate to say it, but yes, I do.  I'd take it back in a second.  For my family to be here and just be everybody okay, safe and sound and happy and normal, would have been fantastic.  Heck, yeah.  I'd erase it all in a second if I could."

He added, "I'll tell you right now -- the damn show destroyed my family."

Billy Ray also says whenever his 18-year-old daughter found herself causing controversy, he would be cited as the person responsible.

Cyrus said, "Every time the train went off the track...her people, or as they say in today's news, her handlers, every time they'd put [the blame on] me...I took it because I'm her daddy...OK, nail me to the cross."

Billy Ray, who confessed "there's no doubt" his family is under attack by Satan, also says he's worried because so many people want a piece of his daughter.

"I'm scared for her," he said.  "She's got a lot of people around her that's putting her in a great deal of danger.  I want to get her sheltered from the storm."

Billy Ray also discussed the infamous salvia incident, in which Miley was caught on camera smoking the herb from a bong.  He said one of Miley's "handlers" told him "it was none of my business."  He then added, "I should have said, 'Enough is enough -- it's getting dangerous and somebody's going to get hurt'...Honestly, I didn't know the ball was out of bounds until it was way up in the stands somewhere."
