(BRANSON, Mo.) -- Andy Williams confirmed he has bladder cancer at a Christmas concert appearance Saturday at the Moon River Theatre in Branson, Mo.
The 83-year-old singer remained optimistic about his diagnosis, saying the disease "is no longer a death sentence. People are...kicking it...more and more every year. And I'm going to be one of them," the Branson Tri-Lakes News reports.
He pledged he would celebrate 2012 as his 75th year as a performer, saying, "I'm going to do the shows I've planned to do."
Williams is known as Mr. Christmas for his timeless renditions of yuletide standards like "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year," as well as other classics including "Moon River."
Saturday's holiday concert marked Williams' first onstage appearance in weeks. He sang "Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire," and thanked audience members for their support during his "time of need." Branson opened the Moon River Theatre in 1992 and since then has hosted many shows at the venue.
The singer has not announced where he will receive chemotherapy, though other media reports have speculated it will take place in Houston.
