(LOS ANGELES) -- Five weeks after he was initially voted off but saved by the judges, Casey Abrams was eliminated from American Idol Thursday night.
He sang "I Put a Spell on You" for his farewell song and hugged all the judges and several audience members during the performance. As you know, the judges only get one save per season, but that early vote of confidence wasn't enough to keep one of their clearly favorite contestants in the running.
The top six contestants opened the show with a medley of songs written by and/or performed by Carole King, echoing Wednesday night's theme, including "It Might as Well Rain Until September," "Take Good Care of My Baby," "One Fine Day," "Go Away Little Girl" and "It's Too Late."
Season nine finalist Crystal Bowersox returned to the show to sing her song "Ridin' with the Radio," and Bruno Mars made his first appearance on American Idol to deliver his latest single, "The Lazy Song."
American Idol's top five will perform next Wednesday night at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
