Martin Scorsese Sued by Production Company over Unmade Film

ABC/Ida Mae Astute(NEW YORK) -- Martin Scorsese has been sued by a production company that claims he's neglected a project that he agreed in 1990 to direct.

According to, Cecchi Gori Pictures claims production on the film, titled Silence, has been postponed as Scorsese directed three other movies: The Departed, Shutter Island and Hugo. In exchange, the lawsuit says, Scorsese agreed to pay the company a fee for each movie. Cecchi Gori Pictures claims that he never paid the fee for Hugo, his 2011 Oscar-winning family film.

Cecchi Gori Pictures says Scorsese is now planning to take on another film, Wolf of Wall Street with Leonardo DiCaprio, instead of Silence.

Cecchi Gori Pictures seeks a 1.5-million-dollar fee for Hugo, plus a percentage of other compensation Scorsese earned from the film. They also want fees for any other movies he decides to direct before he works on Silence.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Silence focuses on missionaries in the 1600s who travel to Japan to investigate reports of the emperor torturing Christians.
