Kate Middleton Makes First On-Camera Charitable Appeal as a Royal

WPA Pool / Getty Images(LONDON) -- A pregnant Duchess of Cambridge has made her first on-camera charitable appeal for children’s hospices in the United Kingdom.

In the video, which made its debut Saturday, Kate Middleton urges people to support children’s hospice week.

“Children’s hospices provide lifelines to families at a time of unimaginable pain,” the royal mum-to-be says in the video.

Middleton and Prince William are celebrating their second wedding anniversary on Monday, the same day the Duchess plans to visit Naomi Children’s Hospital in Hampshire, England.

Two years after their fairy tale wedding, the royal couple have shown a desire to live as normal a life as they possibly can.

“They’re really shaking things up behind the scenes and within the royal family,” said ABC News’ royals expert Victoria Arbiter. “They’ve done things that we wouldn’t have expect of them.”

They’ve also spent vacations with Kate’s family, commoners who made their fortune with a party goods business.

“I think William was sending a clear message that yes, Kate’s a member of the royal family, but he, too, is a member of the Middleton family,” Arbiter said.

With the royal heir due in two months, the royal couple plan to be hands-on parents.

“They will have nannies at some point,” Arbiter said, “but I don’t think it’s going to be the school of nannies we’ve seen in the past.”

Beyonce's Gold Silk Tuxedo Up for Grabs at a New York City Garage Sale

Kristian Dowling/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Remember that gold silk tuxedo that Beyonce wore in her "Love on Top" music video?  Well, according to the New York Post, that shiny number will be up for grabs at the Park Avenue Garage sale happening in New York City's Chelsea area this weekend.

Bey's suit was donated to the charitable event by designer Douglas Hannant.  The Post reports that Hannant handed over the tux after he sewed the sleeves back on.  Apparently, Bey danced up such a storm that she tore the arms off the jacket.

The tuxedo will sell for $750, which is a steal, considering that the gold number was originally marked at $5,600.  Other gently used or new items will be up for grabs at the A-list garage sale, and proceeds will benefit the non-profit organization New Yorkers for Children.

Report: Charlie Sheen Donated All of His "Scary Movie 5" Dough

Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic(LOS ANGELES) -- While a recent report said Charlie Sheen took pity on his Scary Movie 5 cameo co-star Lindsay Lohan and sent her a hundred grand to cut in half her $200,000 debt to Uncle Sam, TMZ reports Sheen helped out other charity cases as well with his salary for the spoof.

The gossip site says the former Warlock donated the remainder of his $250,000 paycheck to three charities chosen by the movie's director and producers.

Earlier this year, Sheen announced he'd given one of his profit points for his new show Anger Management to the USO's Operation Enduring Care Campaign for wounded veterans; the donation was worth at least a million bucks, but that amount will grow because Anger Management was subsequently picked up by FX for 90 additional episodes.

Kate Middleton Takes on Charity Work: Embracing Princess Diana’s Legacy

Niall Carson /WPA Pool/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Kate Middleton was out and about this weekend supporting various causes and charities around London — a royal role that is becoming part of her daily routine.

Sunday, the Duchess of Cambridge was supporting a children’s charity by participating in camping activities.

On Friday night, she attended a charity theater night for 150 kids from one of her personal charities, The Art Room.

There’s still the traditional pomp and circumstance of this Jubilee year to be dealt with, including events like Saturday’s Trooping the Colour, where Kate, her husband Prince William and brother-in-law Prince Harry were all on show.

But it’s the charity work of the young royals that’s beginning to catch the eye.

All three show an awareness of those less fortunate than themselves, which is relevant in these difficult economic times, and something the two princes seem to have inherited from their mother, Princess Diana, who died in a car crash in Paris in 1997.

“She very much wanted to take us away from the royal aspects of life … and get us to see the rawness of life,” Prince William said in an earlier interview. “One of the biggest lessons I learned is just how lucky and privileged so many of us are, particularly myself in the conditions that I live and the lifestyle I lead.”

Both princes have been keen to display their sense of duty with their military careers. And with Prince Harry’s high profile work with kids in Africa, and William’s involvement with the homeless, the echoes of Diana’s legacy are easy to see.

Now Kate is the latest recruit to this generation of royalty embracing charity work.

“I would say that William, Kate and Harry together are like the three musketeers. They’re invincible,” British royals expert Victoria Arbiter said.

Katy Perry Learns to Cook for $50,000

Larry Busacca/Getty Images for EJAF(NEW YORK) -- Singer Katy Perry forked over $50,000 for cooking lessons from chef Cat Cora at Elton John's 20th Annual AIDS Foundation Academy Awards viewing party this past Sunday.

The 27-year-old singer entered into a bidding war with NY Giants co-owner Steve Tisch at The City of West Hollywood Park in Beverly Hills, US Weekly reported.

An attendee told the magazine, "Neil Patrick Harris was beat boxing while chef Cat Cora and David Burka sang [Snoop Dogg's] 'Drop It Like It's Hot' to sell a cooking experience during the auction."

Perry's $50,000 offer was initially outbid by Tisch who increased the price to $80,000. "Katy emptied her purse out jokingly for the cameras before she and Steve agreed to share the prize for $100,000," the attendee said.

"Katy got up and hugged him delightedly. She seemed a bit tipsy, but not messy at all," she continued.

For $50,000, Perry could have spent two years taking classes at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, N.Y., the school where Chef Cora received her culinary education.

The recently-single "Firework" singer split with Russell Brand, 36, in December.

Photos surfaced this weekend showing Brand and rumored new girlfriend Oriela Medellin Amieiro together.

Kim Kardashian’s Wedding Gifts Are Going to Charity

Don Arnold/WireImage(LOS ANGELES) -- It’s true: Kim Kardashian's wedding gifts are going to charity.

The Dream Foundation confirmed to ABC News Wednesday that the reality TV star, who has previously worked with the organization that grants wishes to terminally ill adults, reached out to contribute the gifts from her wedding to Kris Humphries following her decision to file for divorce. (The gifts do not include the money she reportedly made from selling the media rights to her wedding.)

“It comes to no surprise to Dream Foundation that Kim would take a difficult and trying situation and turn it into something tremendously positive and impactful to the families we serve,” the foundation’s president, Thomas W. Rollerson, said in a statement. “We are sorry for the circumstances surrounding this contribution, yet this is Kim’s way of paying forward the gestures of love that were bestowed to her.”

Kardashian’s donation will be a “symbolic donation in the value of the gifts she received.” Asked how much money that “symbolic donation” amounts to, Rollerson said via e-mail, “ALLOT!  :)” and added that the money is “being wired in this morning.”

“It’s a substantial contribution,” he said, “a gesture that will help hundreds of families in their greatest time of need.”

Rollerson went on to praise Kardashian’s commitment to the Dream Foundation: “For years, Kim has been one of our most dedicated and ready supporters, not only in contributions, but also in the lending of her time and generous heart. We have personally witnessed her holding hands and comforting terminally ill adults, offering compassion, kindness and acknowledgment to the end of life journey. It is by those acts that a person should be judged -- and we are blessed to have Kim as a part of our service.”

Kardashian has repeatedly rebuked reports that she engineered her wedding for a payday, writing on her blog Tuesday night that she’s “donating the money for all the gifts to the Dream Foundation.”
