Cheryl Cole Sues "The X Factor" Producers for Millions over Firing

Chris Jackson/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) -- British pop star Cheryl Cole is suing The X Factor producers for loss of earnings after she was fired from her position as judge at the very start of season one of the U.S. version of the talent show, according to E! Online.

The former vocalist with U.K. pop band Girls Aloud is suing producers for $2.3 million.  She was replaced by Nicole Scherzinger.

According to E! Online, Cole states that a “pay or play” clause in her contract entitles her to the $2 million she was promised for the Fox show’s second season.  The complaint states that though Cole was paid $1.8 million for season one, she is owed her season-two salary.  Further allowances for hotels, stylists, wardrobe and other related expenses are also being claimed.

The former judge on the U.K. version of The X Factor also wants defendant Blue Orbit Productions to reimburse her for personal security expenses, as well as flights between London and L.A. for her and her staff.

Cole made brief appearances on the U.S. X Factor's first season, during the audition episodes.

Meanwhile, a report in the U.K's The Mirror on Monday claims Cole could be set to return to the U.K. version of the show.  A source claims that she and show producer Simon Cowell have “verbally agreed” to work together again.

Nicole Scherzinger Replacing Cheryl Cole as Judge on 'The X Factor'?

Interscope Records/Universal Music Group(LOS ANGELES) -- The X Factor hasn't begun airing yet, yet already Nicole Scherzinger may be switching roles.

Though Scherzinger had been announced as one of the hosts of Simon Cowell's singing competition, she will now serve as a judge, replacing British pop star Cheryl Cole, according to TMZ.com.

The website reports producers dropped Cole in part because they were concerned U.S. audiences wouldn't understand her rather thick British accent.  TMZ also says that Cole and judge Paula Abdul lacked chemistry with one another during auditions.

Scherzinger had been tapped to co-host The X Factor with British TV personality Steve Jones.  The other three judges are Cowell, Abdul and producer Antonio "L.A." Reid.

The show debuts on Fox this fall.

Simon Cowell Eyes Paula Abdul for 'X Factor' Judge

Jeffrey Ufberg/WireImage(LOS ANGELES) -- Simon Cowell has a couple of big names in mind for his judges' panel on The X Factor.

Aside from himself and the already-announced L.A. Reid, Cowell confirmed to Deadline.com that he wants British pop star Cheryl Cole on the panel. However, perhaps the biggest name who could join the show is Paula Abdul, his former colleague from American Idol. Abdul, whose CBS dance competition Live to Dance was canceled last February after just one season, is reportedly yet to begin negotiations with The X Factor. Talks between Cole and show producers are reprotedly ongoing.

Cowell says of Abdul, "I missed her the second she left the show. Always loved working with her even though she can be a pain. And I've been consistent about this. I don’t know what it is about her, but I've always clicked with her. You just have to get that chemistry, and she's right." As for Cole, he says Fox is "desperate" to bring her aboard.

The X Factor premieres in the fall on Fox.

Simon Cowell Leaves UK Edition of 'The X Factor'

Paul Drinkwater/NBC(LONDON) -- Now that Simon Cowell is busy with the U.S. edition of The X Factor, he won't have time to star on the British version of the singing competition. ITV, the network that airs The X Factor in the U.K., says Cowell will not serve as a judge on its version of the show when it returns for a new season this summer, according to Variety. However, ITV says Cowell, who owns the rights to the program, will continue to be an "enormous presence backstage."

Cowell will be a judge on the U.S. incarnation of The X Factor, which premieres on Fox this fall. Interestingly, British pop star Cheryl Cole has been rumored as one of Cowell's fellow panelists on The X Factor, even though she's currently a judge on the British version of the show.

The publication says the contract is being drawn up and that an announcement will be made once the deal is finalized.

Cole's involvement in The X Factor comes as no surprise -- judge L.A. Reid recently said Cole would serve on the panel, though he later backtracked.
