Celebrities Spending the Holidays in Aspen and Mexico

MAX NASH/AFP/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Goldie Hawn and her daughter Kate Hudson are just some of the stars who have been celebrating the holidays in Aspen, Colo.

Hawn tweeted on Wednesday, “Hope you had a wonderful Christmas. We are all together in Aspen. Being with just our family makes us so happy.”

The New York Post reports Christina Aguilera, Uma Thurman and Mariah Carey have also been spotted in snowy Aspen.

While some stars enjoy the snow, others prefer a much warmer Mexican getaway.  The Post reports Jeremy Piven, Larry David, George Clooney and Leo DiCaprio are just some of the celebs who will be partying this Sunday, Dec. 30, at a lavish Mexican resort on the Riviera Maya owned by Mike Meldman, the founder of the real estate development firm Discovery Land Company.

A source tells the newspaper, “A lot of the celebrities have houses at the resort or are allowed to stay for free for the party.  Then the celebrations carry on to the private houses right through New Year’s.”

Comics React to Dane Cook's Colorado Shooting Joke

Michael Schwartz/WireImage(LOS ANGELES) -- During a performance at Los Angeles’ Laugh Factory, comedian Dane Cook stirred a backlash when he joked about the movie theater shooting in Colorado that left 12 people dead and 58 injured.

Cook said, “I heard that the guy came into the theater about 25 minutes [into the movie]. And I don’t know if you’ve seen the movie, but the movie’s pretty much a piece of crap. Yeah, spoiler alert. I know that if none of that would have happened, I’m pretty sure that somebody in that theater, about 25 minutes in realizing it was a piece of crap, probably was like, ‘Ugh, f**ing shoot me.’”

Cook later apologized after backlash erupted over the joke, but the controversy about it — and about a comment about rape Daniel Tosh used to admonish a heckler earlier this month — started a conversation with comics at the Television Critics Association gathering in Los Angeles over the weekend. Specifically, how far is too far?

Brad Garrett, who is a stand-up performer but best known for his work on Everybody Loves Raymond, told ABC News Radio that Cook crossed the line. “Absolutely … That’s just, you know, super poor taste,” Garrett said.  “To me, that’s definitely below the belt because … there’s nothing about [the situation] that could possibly be [seen as] humor.”

For his part, Russell Brand disagreed, saying he hadn’t heard either comment from Cook or Tosh, but he feels nothing should be out of a comic’s sights.

“I think if someone’s…a comedian, and they say something…you should recall the bit that they’re a comedian.” Brand says people tend to “remove that from the analysis to … create some storm of condemnation.”

"Dark Knight Rises" to Help Victims of Colorado Theater Shooting

Ron Phillips | Warner Bros.(AURORA, Colo.) -- Warner Bros. Pictures, the studio that produced The Dark Knight Rises, will make a “substantial” donation to a fund that supports charities helping the victims of the theater shooting in Aurora, Colo., a studio representative and a spokesman for Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper said Monday night during a screening of the film.

Twelve people were killed and 58 wounded early Friday morning when a gunman walked into a sold out midnight showing of the latest Batman film in Aurora and opened fire.

The Hollywood Reporter quoted sources as saying the studio’s donation to Colorado’s Community First Foundation would be “substantial,” though they would not name a specific amount. Both the studio and the Colorado governor’s office confirmed the report to ABC News.

Hickenlooper’s office said there would be an official announcement of the studio’s donation on Tuesday morning.

Despite the mass shooting, The Dark Knight Rises took in about $162 million in North America over the weekend.

Warner Bros. had announced it would hold off reporting the film’s opening grosses until Monday, but the information was leaked to several media outlets Sunday.

“Out of respect for the victims and their families, Warner Bros. Pictures will not be reporting box office numbers for The Dark Knight Rises throughout the weekend,” the studio said in a statement to ABC News.

Warner Bros. also removed the trailer for the Ryan Gosling film, “Gangster Squad,” which featured a movie theater shooting scene, from screenings of The Dark Knight Rises. The studio pulled some TV ads for the Batman film, according to Bloomberg News.

Campaign Launched for ‘Batman’ Star to Visit Colorado Shooting Victims

TM and © DC Comics(NEW YORK) -- A campaign that has spread through Facebook and Twitter is asking “Batman” star Christian Bale to make the trip in his Batman costume from Gotham City to visit children injured in the Aurora, Colo., theater shooting.

“All those kids in the hospital recovering from gunshot wounds at the Batman massacre could use a visit from their real hero,” said a post on Facebook. “They need to know heroes can be real too, not just the bad guys.”

The campaign picked up steam on Twitter, using the hashtag #BaleOutAurora.

It was unclear if Bale had heard of the campaign, but the actor released a statement today expressing his condolences to victims of the shooting.

“Words cannot express the horror that I feel. I cannot begin to truly understand the pain and grief of the victims and their loved ones, but my heart goes out to them,” Bale said.

Twelve people were killed in the midnight massacre and 58 were injured. It is not known how many of the injured are children.

Brooke Mueller Returns to California Following Colorado Arrest

Christopher Polk/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) -- Charlie Sheen's ex-wife, Brooke Mueller, was given court permission Monday to return to California following her arrest over the weekend in Aspen, Colo., for alleged third-degree assault and cocaine possession.

The Aspen Daily News reports her attorney had made the request to allow the 34-year-old Mueller to return to California so she could reunite with Sam and Max, the twin boys she has with Sheen.  She flew to Los Angeles via a private jet following the judge's decision.

Mueller, who has battled addiction issues in the past, was arrested after police say they went on a "routine walkthrough" at an Aspen club and were told by a woman that Mueller had assaulted her.  She posted $11,000 bond and was released from custody.  She has a court date scheduled for Dec. 19.

Will Family Drama Reign at Lauren Bush, David Lauren's Wedding?

Dimitrios Kambouris/WireImage(NEW YORK) -- Britain's royal wedding was a must-not-miss event. But it seems its American equivalent (not the reality TV one) may not carry quite the same cache.

Lauren Bush, the model, philanthropist, granddaughter and niece of former presidents George H.W. and George W. Bush, will wed David Lauren, the son of fashion mogul Ralph Lauren, at the elder Lauren's Colorado ranch on Sunday. But her presidential forefathers may not be in attendance.

A spokesman for George H.W. and Barbara Bush told ABC News the couple will be unable to go because the ranch's high altitude could pose a threat to their health. A spokesman for George W. Bush declined to comment on his private schedule.

Elevation may not be the Bush's only concern about the wedding.

Sharon Bush, Lauren's mother, endured a very public divorce with George W.'s brother, Neil Bush, in 2003 after 23 years of marriage. The divorce proceedings brought forth a bevy of details about the couple that were disclosed publicly and didn't exactly help the family's reputation. Among them: He engaged in extramarital affairs with multiple female escorts during business trips in Thailand and Hong Kong, he contracted herpes from one of these encounters, and she extracted his hair to either place a voodoo curse on him or administer a drug test, depending on whose testimony you believe.

A contentious settlement followed, and Neil Bush quickly got remarried to Maria Andrews, a former volunteer in Barbara Bush's office. He and Sharon Bush will attend Sunday's wedding; she'll reportedly be escorted by Prince Dimitri of Yugoslavia.

But there'll be plenty happening at the wedding to distract guests from potential family drama. Like... a rodeo.

Yes, though they may be high-society scions, the bride and groom to be aren't afraid to get down and dirty. According to the New York Post, the elder Lauren and his wife have planned a rodeo for Monday, the day after the wedding, in Telluride, Colo. Guests will also hit the field for a softball game on Saturday. Teepees, cabins and a saloon at the 17,000-acre Rocky Mountain ranch, which has been dubbed Double RL by the designer and was featured on Oprah, will no doubt fuel the fun as well.

As for the question on many inquiring minds: Once married, the bride will likely not be known as Lauren Lauren.

"I think it will be Lauren Bush-Lauren," she said in the April issue of Harper's Bazaar. "That's not final, but I think it's nice to have the same name as your husband. I am sort of old-fashioned in that way."
