Drew Barrymore: A 'Fancy, Girly' Name Wouldn't Suit My Daughter

Photo by Jon Kopaloff/FilmMagic(LOS ANGELES) -- Drew Barrymore chose her daughter’s name -- Olive -- when she was three months pregnant, and, she says, it was more perfect than she ever could have predicted.

“If I had named her some very fancy girly name, it wouldn’t suit her,” she tells chef Eric Ripert on a recent episode of On the Table with Eric Ripert. “She is an Olive.”

Barrymore, who just launched her own wine collection, Barrymore Wines, explained that the inspiration for baby Olive’s name came from a pregnancy book that she and husband Will Kopelman had been reading.

“It always compared the size of the baby to a food item,” she says. “At one point we had just found out that it was a girl and it said, ‘Your baby is the size of an olive.’ And I was like, ‘Cheers! Done!’”

And since giving birth to Olive in September, the actress says she’s developed an obsession with cooking.

“I want to be able to throw things together for her in an effortless fashion,” says Barrymore. “I’m still at the stage when I’m cooking -- there’s like, flames going off behind me and alarms and I’m nervous and I’m not sexy, so I hope by the time that she’s ready to eat my food that I make it look like, ‘Sure honey, you want this? You got it.’”

Celeb Chefs Go Back in Time for New Cooking Competition

ABC/RON TOM(NEW YORK) -- Are you bored with endless TV cooking competition shows?  A one-off show airing Thursday night on ABC hopes to shake things up a little bit.

Called Time Machine Chefs, the show takes a few celebrity chefs -- Top Chef Masters vets Art Smith and Chris Cosentino, Top Chef season-two winner Ilan Hall and Next Iron Chef contestant Jill Davie -- and plunks them down in the "past," courtesy of a "time machine" that resembles a giant refrigerator.   

The chefs will visit China's Ming Dynasty, which was between 1368 and 1644 A.D., and the Tudor era of England, circa 1416 A.D., and be forced to compete in cooking challenges using only the tools available at the time.  That means no running water, no electricity, and bizarre food that nobody eats today.  The chefs will compete for the title of "The Greatest Chef in History."

Asked why he felt the need to appear in yet another cooking reality show, since he's currently on Top Chef Masters, Smith calls himself a "serial cooking competitor" and tells ABC News Radio, "I love a challenge...and it was such an amazing challenge when I heard about it.  The idea of actually cooking in a different time period and actually using the equipment of that era as well as the food."

Smith also feels that Time Machine Chefs, as crazy as it sounds, ups the game a bit on all these shows. "There is a need in the whole reality cooking show business for something more exciting, more fun, something more engaging," he explains. "And what I love about Time Machine is that it's entertaining. People see what the period was like,'cause it's very authentic, and I also believe, too, that it's educational."

Art says that the craziest thing he had to cook during the competition was something that would take modern-day Americans aback: a peacock.  "You know, I grew up on a farm," Art says, admitting he had a very hard time with that particular dish. "Everything had a name and we had peacocks and I love them -- the most beautiful, majestic bird -- and I'd rather have it as a pet than eat it."  But, ultimately, he admits, "It's very delicious.  It tastes like turkey!"

Time Machine Chefs airs Thursday at 9 p.m. ET.

Did Food Network Pastry Chef Copy Recipes?

Marc Stamas/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Food Network dessert star Anne Thornton is embroiled in a culinary controversy. The pastry chef and Dessert First host got the axe from her TV show after her recipes were deemed too similar to versions dished out by culinary queen Martha Stewart and the Barefoot Contessa, according to the New York Post.

"The network discovered the similarities during the second season of the show," an unnamed source told the Post. "They went back and reviewed her first season, and discovered what looked like copying then, too."

The Post reported that Thornton's frosting for her German Chocolate Cupcakes mirrored Martha Stewart's coconut-pecan frosting recipe from the 2009 book 175 Cupcakes.

The plagiarism allegations relate to recipe ingredients, but also copycat cooking instructions. Thornton's Mascarpone-Stuffed French Toast recipe follows nearly identical directions as one in The Essence of Chocolate cookbook, and only adds orange zest and a strawberry topping in lieu of maple syrup, the Post reported.

Thornton's Luscious Lemon Squares also came under fire for their similarities to a recipe penned by the Barefoot Contessa, Ina Garden, in 1999.

A Food Network spokeswoman declined to address the plagiarism allegations, but cited ratings as the reason behind the show's cancellation.

Thornton, who left a job at Apple to make food her career, attended New York's Institute of Culinary Education. She worked as a pastry chef at New York City hot spots The Waverly Inn in 2006 and Hotel Griffou from 2009 until 2010, before making her debut on Food Network in October 2010. Thornton's second season was a 13-episode run that ended in June 2011. The show was not picked up for a third season.

The pastry chef told the Post that it was the first time she had heard of plagiarism allegations.

William Shatner on Deep Frying a Turkey

PRNewsFoto/State Farm(LOS ANGELES) -- Is there anything that William Shatner can’t do?

It seems that deep frying turkeys is one of the Star Trek actor’s specialties and he’s gotten together with State Farm Insurance to produce a video entitled “Eat, Fry, Love” which instructs fellow turkey lovers on the safest way to fry the bird for Thanksgiving.

Actually, Shatner demonstrates everything you shouldn’t do, which results in the superstar briefly setting himself on fire.

Not to worry though. Shatner comes out of the experience wiser, if not a little crispier.

He also want fans to find him on twitter, #ShatnerFryersClub, pleading, “I want to know you plan to keep yourself, your family and me safe from turkey fryer fires.”

Chef Gordon Ramsay Back in 'Hell's Kitchen' Monday

ABC News(NEW YORK) -- The ninth season of foul-mouthed chef Gordon Ramsay's Fox series Hell's Kitchen kicks off Monday night.

Eighteen contestants will compete this season for the chance to become the head chef at BLT Steak in New York City.
