Sonja Flemming/CBS ©2011 CBS Broadcasting Inc.(LOS ANGELES) -- Another CSI star is leaving the CBS drama on Wednesday.

In the short term, Helgenberger plans on doing theater work. She also doesn't rule out an occasional cameo on CSI down the line.

Helgenberger joins a growing list of CSI stars who've left the show in the past five years, including William Petersen, Jorja Fox, Gary Dourdan and, more recently, Laurence Fishburne.

Fans of the show can watch her farewell episode at 10:00 p.m. Eastern time.

''CSI,' 'Hangover' Actor Arrested for Impersonating an Officer to Get Sex

Justin Bieber Returns to 'CSI' Thursday Night

Photo Courtesy - Island Def Jam(NEW YORK) -- Continuing his takeover of seemingly every form of mass media on earth, Justin Bieber returns to CSI: Crime Scene Investigation Thursday night.

Bieber's reprising his role as troubled teen Jason McCann, who he played on the show last September.

In this episode, called "A Target of Obsession," Nick Stokes, played by George Eads, gets a call from Jason, warning him that he's in danger.  Eads has hinted that in the episode, things don't end well for Jason.

Explaining why he wanted to appear on CSI, Bieber said, "First of all, I think it's a really cool show...and I wanted to do something that's going to be challenging for me."

Bieber said he enjoys playing "a bad person," because he's not like that in real life.

Comparing acting versus performing onstage, he said, "I love performing for my fans 'cause there's so many people and I feed off the energy.  This is really intimate -- like, it's just me and the cameras the other actors and actresses.  So it's really cool to just get into it.  'Cause I'm a crazy kid in the episode, so I just have to get into that mindset."

CBS Series "CSI" Turns 10

Photo Courtesy - CBS Broadcasting Inc.The CBS series CSI, about a team of forensic evidence investigators in Las Vegas, premiered 10 years ago Wednesday, paving the way for the outbreak of so-called "procedural dramas," like Cold Case and Without a Trace, while also setting the stage for a pair of spin-offs, CSI: Miami and CSI: NY.  Along the way, the show garnered huge ratings and was instrumental in CBS' resurgence as a top-rated network.

Like many long-running programs, the Emmy-winning CSI, now in its 11th season, has aired well over 200 shows to date and survived its share of cast upheaval.  Original star William Petersen, better known as Gil Grissom, left in the middle of the ninth season, although he remains an executive producer.  Laurence Fishburne stepped in to fill the void created by Petersen's departure and the show didn't suffer in the ratings.

Another original star, Jorja Fox, became the subject of termination rumors in 2007 over whispers that she wanted a raise and failed to show up on time for a taping.  She later told Entertainment Weekly she left the drama on her own, although it's never been specified if she was fired.  Fox eventually returned for a handful of episodes in the series' ninth season before returning as a regular over the next two seasons.

Marg Helgenberger, who's also been with the show since its inception, had originally announced plans to leave after the 10th season, but she later backtracked and signed on this past summer for the 11th year, claiming she needed the money following her divorce.

Another original star, Gary Dourdan, left the show following the eighth season, although the death of his character was an issue in the ninth season premiere.  Dourdan has had his own run-ins with police in real-life.  In 2009, he pleaded guilty to cocaine and ecstasy possession not long after he left the show.

The drama has also welcomed several high-profile guest stars, including Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Dakota Fanning, Aisha Tyler, Liev Schreiber, Kevin Federline and Jason Segel.  In addition, the show is known for its unusual decision to use a popular song as its theme: The Who's "Who Are You."  The band also provides the theme music for the spin-offs.

William Peterson has his own theory as to why the show remains popular.  He says,"This show is Sherlock Holmes meets the millennium. What would Sherlock Holmes be like now if he was walking around with the kind of technology that we have?" He adds of the show's characters, "I think they're undercover heroes."

CSI has also cemented its place in popular culture through the half-dozen video games based on it and more than one dozen books.

You can catch CSI every Wednesday at 9:00 p.m. ET on CBS.

"CSI" Episode Featuring Justin Bieber Draws 14.7 Million Viewers

Photo Courtesy - ABC News(NEW YORK) -- It seems Justin Bieber fans would rather see him sing than act, judging by the ratings for his guest appearance on CSI last week. The season premiere of the CBS series reportedly drew 14.7 million viewers, which, by CSI standards, is a solid but unspectacular audience. By comparison, Taylor Swift's guest appearance on CSI last year attracted nearly 21 million viewers. Bieber is set to return to the series later this season.
