Daniel Craig Says "Skyfall" Pays Tribute to Past James Bond Films

Greg Williams/Eon Productions via Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- This year marks the 50th anniversary of the James Bond movie franchise.  So it's no surprise that the latest film in the series, Skyfall, set out to pay homage to its predecessors.

Daniel Craig, who returns as 007, says, "It's 50 years and we need to mark it and to make the best Bond movie we possibly could and to introduce and reintroduce and introduce some new ideas and to celebrate it a little bit."

"I would be lying if I said we weren't influenced by Goldfinger for sure," he continued.

Skyfall, the 23rd Bond film, opens this Friday.

Daniel Craig Bonded to Bond

Greg Williams/Eon Productions via Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- On Nov. 9, Daniel Craig will be seen in theaters nationwide for the third time as iconic spy James Bond in the 23rd 007 adventure, Skyfall.

In a press conference promoting the film on Monday in New York City, Craig admitted the decision to play the character didn't come without hesitation, but in the end it's a decision he's happy he made.

"I was just a little bewildered that they'd even come to me," said Craig.  "Of course I was concerned about being typecast...but you know when you weight it up, it's not bad to be typecast as James Bond."

The film series' producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson have said publicly they want Craig to break Roger Moore's record of seven 007 films, and Craig sure seems to be on board with that as well.

"I'm incredibly proud and lucky to be in this position...As soon as we get the script I'll be really up for doing 24, and hopefully this will be a success and we'll have some momentum," he said.

Skyfall, which also stars Judi Dench, Javier Bardem, and Ralph Fiennes, centers on a villainous plot to attack Britain's spy agency MI:6 and expose its covert agents in an effort to discredit Dench's character M, Bond's boss and friend.

Daniel Craig's 007 Swim Trunks Fetch $72,000 at Auction

Greg Williams/Eon Productions via Getty Images(LONDON) -- The swim trunks that Daniel Craig wore as James Bond in his first 007 film, Casino Royale, sold for almost $72,000 at a charity auction in London on Friday, the BBC reports.

Actress Judi Dench, who has played Bond’s boss M, and continues the role in the upcoming Skyfall, introduced the blue swimsuit at the auction.

Dench joked, "All I'm going to tell you is they're unwashed."

An Aston Martin DBS driven by Craig in Quantum Of Solace sold for nearly $390,000.  A copy of the orchestral score to Skyfall's theme song, signed by Adele and co-writer Paul Epworth, sold for $22,000.

In all, some 50 pieces of James Bond memorabilia were sold by Christie's on Friday, which marked the 50th anniversary of the first Bond movie, Dr. No.  Proceeds from the auction benefited several charities.

Skyfall, which also stars Ralph Fiennes and Javier Bardem, opens in theaters nationwide on Nov. 9.

Daniel Craig: Fame Ain't What It Used to Be

Greg Williams/Eon Productions via Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- While fans look forward to his third go 'round as James Bond in November's Skyfall, Daniel Craig is looking back to the Hollywood of yesteryear: before everybody and his mother had a cellphone.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Craig says, "You talk to people in the movie business who have been doing this 40 years and they all say the difference is that, back in the day, you could go and have a drink in the bar, get drunk, fall over, have a good time, relax, whatever, and no one would know about it. But now everyone's got a camera."

The actor explains further, "Not that all I want to do is get drunk in a bar, but that's an example. So you can't live a normal life anymore. Because it will become public knowledge that you've whatever -- gotten drunk in a bar or skinny-dipped on a beach or something. Things that normal people do occasionally. And in a way that's kind of -- I’ve got to be high-class ... But you have to think in that way. Which is sad, because I like bars."

That being said, even 007 has his limits. "It's amazing how many times I've sat in interviews ... and it's 11 o'clock in the morning and someone sends a martini over," Craig says, laughing. "And it's like, Really? It's 11 o'clock! Cheers! I'm not going to drink it."

James Bond Back from the Dead in New "Skyfall" Trailer

Greg Williams/Eon Productions via Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- The just-released second trailer for the upcoming James Bond film Skyfall is sure to get fans buzzing.

The trailer of the film, directed by Oscar winner Sam Mendes, shows Daniel Craig's secret agent shot and apparently killed on a mission gone wrong.  But Bond apparently uses the incident to fake his own death, as Sean Connery's 007 did in You Only Live Twice.

Craig's character comes back into the fold -- albeit a little rusty -- when a villain attacks MI6, in a targeted killing of agents meant to threaten his Boss M, played by Judi Dench.

The trailer also teases some new introductions for Craig's 007 series, including Ralph Fiennes as M's eventual replacement, Ben Whishaw as Bond's new -- and young -- gadget master Q, and for the first time, fans get a look at a blonde Javier Bardem as the movie's villain Silva, who shares history with M.

For good measure, the trailer also shows scenes featuring the latest Bond girls, played by Naomie Harris and Berenice Marlohe.

Skyfall opens on Nov. 9.

Daniel Craig to Play James Bond in Five More Films?

Greg Williams/Eon Productions via Getty Images(LONDON) -- Daniel Craig is currently hard at work shooting Skyfall, the 23rd James Bond adventure, and his third go-round as the suave secret agent.  But if a new report is to believed, 007 movie producer Michael G. Wilson is looking to sign Craig onto five more James Bond adventures, breaking by one Roger Moore's cinematic streak as the legendary spy.

"Filming has gone very well and I'd love Daniel to surpass Roger's record and do eight pictures," Wilson told the newspaper The People.  "A lot of people have said Daniel's been their favorite Bond since Sean Connery and I can’t argue with them.  He’s doing a great job."

Salary talks with the busy Craig -- who will be seen soon in theaters in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and heard as a voice in The Adventures of TinTin -- will reportedly start as soon as Skyfall wraps.  That film is slated to open Nov. 9, 2012.

Keeping Up with the Kardashian Hatred

David Livingston/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) -- The ratings of her latest reality TV show may be up, but Kim Kardashian‘s real-world popularity remains about as high as that of the flu or checked-baggage fees.

Daniel Craig is the latest star to rail against the soon-to-be-single-again reality TV personality and her family.

“Look at the Kardashians, they’re worth millions,” he said in an interview in the latest issue of British GQ. “I don’t think they were that badly off to begin with but now look at them. You see that and you think ‘What, you mean all I have to do is behave like a f**king idiot on television and then you’ll pay me millions.’ I’m not judging it — well, I am obviously.”

President Obama has said he’s not a fan of the family; Carrie Underwood, Brad Paisley and Eric Stonestreet mocked Kardashian’s divorce fiasco at the Country Music Awards. Even Chelsea Handler, whose late-night show airs on the same network as Kardashian’s, has distanced herself, telling MTV, “Luckily, I don’t work at the [E!] building, so I don’t have to hang out with the Kardashians.”

Then there are the hundreds of thousands of people who signed a petition asking E! to take the K-happy gang off television. Still, E!’s Sunday premiere of Kourtney and Kim Take New York scored 3.2 million viewers, topping the series’ January debut, no doubt thanks to a scene in which Kardashian practices yoga with a naked male instructor.

James Bond Targets the Kardashians

Don Arnold/WireImage(LOS ANGELES) -- Don't expect Kim Kardashian to ever be a Bond Girl -- at least while Daniel Craig's wearing 007's tux.

The actor, who is currently shooting his third James Bond adventure, Skyfall, blasted the reality TV family as "F***ing idiots" in a new GQ interview.

Craig is famously reserved about his private life, so much so that he just recently revealed he secretly married Oscar winner Rachel Weisz last June.

"Look at the Kardashians," the actor told GQ.  "You see that and you think, 'What, you mean all I have to do is behave like a f***ing idiot on television and then you'll pay me millions?'"

The actor continued his rant against the Kardashian family, telling GQ, "You can't buy it back -- you can't buy your privacy back."  'Ooh I want to be alone.'  F*** you.  We've been in your living room.  We were at your birth.  You filmed it for us and showed us the placenta and now you want some privacy?"

Not surprisingly, Craig wouldn't share much about his relationship with Weisz.

"Look, I'm in love.  I'm very happy.  And that is as far as I'm prepared to go," he allowed.  "Life is long, life goes wrong and I don't want to say something now that might be thrown back later."

Craig will be seen next in the thriller The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, which opens on Dec. 21.

Was Hugh Jackman Offered Role of James Bond Before Daniel Craig?

Stephen Lovekin/WireImage(LOS ANGELES) -- Before Daniel Craig became James Bond, the role was offered to Jackman, Hugh Jackman.

So says Jackman himself, who, according to, told the Press Association that he was given the opportunity to play 007 in the 2006 movie Casino Royale.

He reportedly said, "I got a call from my agent saying, 'There is some possible interest in you for Bond, are you interested?'  At the time I wasn't.  I was about to shoot X-Men 2 and Wolverine had become this thing in my life and I didn't want to be doing two such iconic characters at once."

Craig has played Bond in two films, Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace. His next 007 adventure, which is still untitled, will hit theaters next November.
