Drew Barrymore: A 'Fancy, Girly' Name Wouldn't Suit My Daughter

Photo by Jon Kopaloff/FilmMagic(LOS ANGELES) -- Drew Barrymore chose her daughter’s name -- Olive -- when she was three months pregnant, and, she says, it was more perfect than she ever could have predicted.

“If I had named her some very fancy girly name, it wouldn’t suit her,” she tells chef Eric Ripert on a recent episode of On the Table with Eric Ripert. “She is an Olive.”

Barrymore, who just launched her own wine collection, Barrymore Wines, explained that the inspiration for baby Olive’s name came from a pregnancy book that she and husband Will Kopelman had been reading.

“It always compared the size of the baby to a food item,” she says. “At one point we had just found out that it was a girl and it said, ‘Your baby is the size of an olive.’ And I was like, ‘Cheers! Done!’”

And since giving birth to Olive in September, the actress says she’s developed an obsession with cooking.

“I want to be able to throw things together for her in an effortless fashion,” says Barrymore. “I’m still at the stage when I’m cooking -- there’s like, flames going off behind me and alarms and I’m nervous and I’m not sexy, so I hope by the time that she’s ready to eat my food that I make it look like, ‘Sure honey, you want this? You got it.’”

On Oscar Sunday, Ben Affleck's Daughter Wins Trophy of Her Own

ROBYN BECK/AFP/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Argo director Ben Affleck has collected many awards this season, including an Oscar statuette for best picture of the year, but his young daughter wasn't to be outdone. She won her own trophy Sunday -- for spelling.

Affleck told ABC News his daughter Violet told him, "You know, I want to do a spelling bee."

The actor-turned-director took his 7-year-old daughter, Violet, to a spelling competition in their Los Angeles neighborhood just hours before the Oscars were to start.

"We found this place at a rec center at a park and we took her down there and she did it and she was into it and really studied and won a trophy," said Affleck in an interview on Good Morning America after the awards.

Affleck's wife, actress Jennifer Garner, told E! that she was getting ready for the Oscars and wasn't able to take her daughter to the competition.

"It was mayhem at our house…I was in hair and makeup so I couldn't take her, so Ben took her in the middle of everything," she told E!, adding that Violet won. "Our family has already had a great day, so congratulations to our sweetie. And then she had a basketball game. Life goes on. No one really cares! It's just all about trying to keep the dogs and kids from getting stuff on the stuff."

In addition to Violet, Garner and Affleck have another daughter, Seraphina, and a son, Samuel.

"Teen Mom" Star Farrah Abraham Waxes 3-Year-Old’s Eyebrows

@F1abraham/Twitter(NEW YORK) -- Teen Mom star Farrah Abraham had a dilemma. To wax or not to wax? But the decision didn’t involve her body hair — she was talking about her 3-year-old daughter.

In a blog on Sulia.com, the 20-year-old MTV star recounted her decision to wax her toddler Sophia’s unibrow.

“Recently I could not ignore it, like I know I’ve seen madonna’s duaghter have a stand out uni brow, I remember when I was little I had a unibrow, but I couldn’t remember if there was an age limit, a rule!” she wrote.

Abraham, who has had a breast augmentation, a chin implant and rhinoplasty, finally decided the waxing had to be done.

“So here I am faced with a standout historical moment in motherhood when I can confirm to myself that my little, adorable, most cuddle-able cutie, baby girl has a Unibrow :( , I felt bad for her, and I started asking friends…. is this hair just going to fall out… is it just hormones at this age?, well the hair didn’t go away and others started saying it was here to stay.”

Abraham said she told her daughter about the unibrow and waxed her own brows to show Sophia how it’s done.

“So I tryed to wax her, the second a dab hit the Uni, she touch it with the towel she had in her hand, UHHH so now, wax was in the towel, and I yanked it back ASAP, but fuzz was not stuck to the wax stuck to her Uni, OMG moment, So now sophia was freaking out, so I had to act like it was a cool science project to get the wax off,” Abraham said.

Sophia then fell asleep, Abraham said, so she used tweezers to remove the rest.

“The next morning I showed her and told her how well she did and she didn’t even know, She was more intrigued now to be ok with upkeeping her non-unibrow. I could tell she was proud,” Abraham said, adding that she felt like a good mom.

Fans were outraged by the post.

“Farrah, this truly appalls me! What were you thinking waxing and tweezing a 3 year olds monobrow!!! How irresponsible,” one person commented. “Did you not recently say you think people should be natural? Yet at 3 you are already teaching Sophia to be self conscious. She’s 3…. A bit of extra hair doesn’t matter.”

“That poor baby….,” another wrote.

Requests for comment from MTV and Abraham were not immediately returned.

Uma Thurman’s Daughter Has Seven Names

Gilbert Carrasquillo/FilmMagic(NEW YORK) -- Uma Thurman’s daughter is going to have a hell of a time filling out a Scantron form.

On Wednesday, the actress revealed the name of the daughter she gave birth to in July: Rosalind Arusha Arkadina Altalune Florence Thurman-Busson, "better known to family and friends as Luna,” Thurman’s rep Gabrielle Kachman told People magazine.

Why so long? “Each name has a special reason and meaning to her mother and father,” Kachman said.

Little Luna joins the ranks of Blue Ivy Carter, Apple Martin, and more celebrity children unlikely to find their monikers on souvenir keychains.

Is Whitney Houston's Daughter Engaged to 'Adopted Brother?'

Tibrina Hobson/WireImage(NEW YORK) -- Whitney Houston's daughter may be even closer to her so-called "adopted brother" than initial reports suggested. According to People magazine, Bobbi Kristina and Nick Gordon may be engaged.

The magazine notes that 19-year-old Bobbi Kristina was seen wearing a ring on her engagement finger recently. A source says, "Yes, they are engaged, but the family is trying to coax her away from it."

Another source claims Gordon popped the question more than a week ago, but it's uncertain whether she said yes. The second source also says the ring on Bobbi Kristina's finger belonged to her mother.

Houston's mother, Cissy Houston, reportedly disapproves of the romance.

Gordon, whom Houston looked after for years, has denied the two are in a relationship.

Whitney Houston Dead at 48

Gabriel Olsen/FilmMagic(LOS ANGELES) -- Whitney Houston, the most awarded female music artist of all time, has died, ABC News Radio has confirmed.  She was 48.

The Beverly Hills Police Department issued a statement that declared, in part, "At 3:43, the Beverly Hills PD got an emergency call from the Beverly Hills hotel. ...At 3:55 this afternoon, Houston was pronounced dead at the hotel. ...No obvious signs of criminal intent at this time."

Whitney's mother, Cissy Houston, as well as her cousin, Dionne Warwick, spoke to Whitney by telephone less than a half-hour before her death, according to TMZ.com.  They reportedly talked about Houston's scheduled appearance at record exec Clive Davis' annual Grammy part Saturday night and Houston seemed "fine," according to TMZ, which also describes Cissy Houston as "hysterical" and Warwick as "an absolute mess."

Despite Houston's death, a spokesperson for RCA records tells ABC News Radio that Davis' Grammy party is scheduled to go on as planned.

Houston was seen on Thursday at another pre-Grammy party and the Hollywood Reporter  says she was described as acting "belligerent."  On Friday, news broke that she was being approached for a seat on the judges' panel on The X Factor.  A source close to Clive Davis, who discovered Houston, told the Hollywood Reporter, "This is a sad day and it will be a sad Grammys weekend."

Aretha Franklin also issued a statement expressing shock at Houston's passing.  "I just can't talk about it now," says Franklin.  "It's so stunning and unbelievable.  I couldn't believe what I was reading coming across the TV screen.  My heart goes out to Cissy, her daughter Bobbi Kris, her family and Bobby [Brown]."

New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, NJ, where Houston sang in the choir when she was younger, will hold a special prayer service Sunday morning at 6:30 a.m. ET.  Church Pastor Joe A. Carter called Houston "A treasure on a global scale and, on a personal note, with our church family."

SLIDESHOW: Whitney Houston Dies: Icon Through the Years

In her storied career, Houston sold over 170 million albums and singles worldwide, and won six Grammy Awards, two Emmys and countless other honors.  The cousin of Dionne Warwick and goddaughter of Aretha Franklin, Whitney grew up singing in the church, and as a teenager, she worked as a backing vocalist, sometimes appearing onstage with her mother, singer Cissy Houston.  In the early '80s, Houston became a model but continued to sing; Clive Davis signed her to Arista Records in 1983 after he saw her perform in a nightclub.

Whitney's 1985 self-titled debut album was a massive hit, as was the follow-up, 1987's Whitney. Together, they produced massive hits like "How Will I Know," "I Wanna Dance with Somebody," "The Greatest Love of All," "So Emotional," "Saving All My Love for You" and "Where Do Broken Hearts Go."

Houston branched out into acting with The Bodyguard, and scored her signature hit "I Will Always Love You" from that movie's soundtrack. Waiting to Exhale and The Preacher's Wife followed.  She had recently wrapped filming on Sparkle, a remake of the 1976 film of the same name, in which she portrayed the mother of an up-and-coming singer played by Jordin Sparks. The film is set to be released in August.

Houston married singer Bobby Brown in 1992, a move many felt was controversial, due to his "bad boy" image.  They had a daughter, Bobbi Kristina, and finally divorced in 2007 after a tumultuous relationship.

Houston's struggles with substance abuse, which she owned up to in various interviews over the past decade, often overshadowed her musical accomplishments.  She went to rehab twice and declared herself drug-free in 2010.  Her 2009 album I Look to You was hailed as her comeback album, but her performances to support it were disappointing, with some fans walking out of shows.

Whitney Houston influenced a generation of musical performers, including Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera and nearly every female singer who ever appeared on American Idol.  Mariah Carey tweeted Saturday night, "Heartbroken and in tears over the shocking death of my friend, the incomparable Ms. Whitney Houston. My heartfelt condolences to Whitney’s family and to all her millions of fans throughout the world. She will never be forgotten as one of the greatest voices to ever grace the earth.”

Cindy Crawford’s Daughter Follows Modeling Mom’s Footsteps

Cindy Crawford's daughter Kaia (Courtesy Versace)(MILAN, Italy) -- Like mother, like daughter: Cindy Crawford’s daughter Kaia appears to be a natural in front of the camera.

The 10-year-old recently made her modeling debut, posing for a Young Versace ad.

And her supermodel mom couldn’t be prouder. “I’m so thrilled that Kaia was chosen to be part of the first Young Versace Campaign,” Crawford said in the campaign’s press release. “I have so many fond memories of the times I spent with Gianni and Donatella.”

Crawford, who was once muse to the late Gianni Versace, was present throughout her daughter’s shoot and described it as a “fantastic experience.”

Donatella Versace, the line’s creative director, said Kaia has her mother’s modelling magic. “Like her mother, Kaia has a very special gift. The camera really, really loves her,” she said in the press release.

It’s no surprise, given Kaia’s pedigree. Her father Rande Gerber is also a former model.

Kaia is not the first model offspring to follow in her mom’s footsteps. Others before her include Georgia May Jagger, daughter of former model Jerry Hall and Mick Jagger; Bria Murphy, daughter of model Nicole Murphy and her ex-husband Eddie Murphy; and plus-size model Mia Tyler, daughter of the late model Cyrinda Foxe and Steven Tyler.

Elvis Presley’s Alleged Long-Lost Swedish Daughter Sues

Hulton Archive/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) -- A Swedish woman who claimed she is Lisa Marie Presley and even wrote a book about her ordeal filed suit against the King of Rock and Roll’s estate for libel and emotional damages she claimed she suffered after she received a scathing letter from the Presleys’ lawyer.

Lisa Johansen filed suit in U.S. District Court last week, seeking $130 million for libel and emotional damages.

“One need look at little more than the description of her ludicrous tome on Amazon to recognize that, at best, Lisa Johansen is delusional,” Hollywood attorney Marty Singer wrote on behalf of the Presley estate.

Johansen published a memoir called I, Lisa Marie: The True Story of Elvis Presley’s Real Daughter in 1998.

“Dazed by grief over the sudden death of her famous father, the young girl is whisked from her life in America to the obscurity of a comfortable exile in Scandinavia. It is for her own safety that she must assume a new identity until she comes of age to take her rightful place as the sole heir of a huge estate,” reads a description of the book.

“Lisa Marie (aka Lisa Johansen) Presley” has been known to certain members of the Presley family ever since she began making the strange claim many years ago that she was Lisa Marie Presley,” Singer wrote.

He said the family remained intent on taking the “high road,” despite Johansen’s behavior.

Singer wrote of several bizarre instances involving Johansen, including the time when she tricked staff into letting her into restricted areas of Graceland.

She “fled when a security alarm rang,” Singer wrote, adding that “she was later seen on surveillance video after removing items from the property.”

A representative from Graceland declined to comment on the suit.

Bobby Brown: My Daughter Doesn’t Do Drugs

Tiffany Rose/WireImage(NEW YORK) -- For Bobby Brown, a picture doesn’t always speak a thousand words.

In an interview with ABC News on Monday, the infamous R&B singer denied that Bobbi Kristina, his daughter with Whitney Houston, has ever used drugs. This month, The National Enquirer published photographs that appear to show the 18-year-old snorting cocaine.

“I don’t know anything about that,” he said when asked about the photos. “My daughter, she doesn’t, she doesn’t do that.”

Bobbi Kristina defended herself on Twitter a day after the photos came out, saying she was “set up” by a money-hungry ex-boyfriend because of “a horrible relationship that went sour.” “It’s really not what it looks like,” she wrote.

Brown also revealed that “there will be a New Edition reunion sometime in the near future.” He shot to fame in the 1980s as part of the R&B band; despite the fact that he was voted out of the group in 1986, Brown said they’re eager to perform together again.

Mel Gibson Makes Crucial Court Appearance

Photo Courtesy - FilmMagic(LOS ANGELES) -- Mel Gibson has seven kids with his ex-wife Robyn Gibson. But right now it seems his reputation as a father hangs in the balance thanks to the custody battle over child number eight: Lucia, the daughter that he had with his former girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva.

On Monday, Gibson makes an appearance in the family law area of Los Angeles County Superior Court to address custodial rights involving Lucia, now a little more than a year old.

TMZ.com reported that Gibson will try "to wrestle custody from Oksana on grounds she is not acting in the best interests of Lucia. He's also asking the judge to deny Oksana overnight visits, and to grant her supervised visitation."

Grigorieva has alleged, according to RadarOnline.com, that last January, at his mansion in Malibu, Gibson "punched out two of her front teeth, leaving her bloodied, bruised and with a concussion." Gibson's team denies the allegations.
