(NEW YORK) -- It didn't take long after New York state's passage of the Marriage Equality Bill Friday night for actor Neil Patrick Harris to make a big announcement of his own.
The How I Met Your Mother star says he's getting married to his boyfriend David Burtka.
Harris wrote on his Twitter page, "It PASSED. Marriage equality in NY!! Yes!! Progress!! Thank you everyone who worked so hard on this!! A historic night!"
A follower told Burtka he should "propose to his boyfriend." Burtka, who is also co-parent to their twins, responded, "I've already proposed, he said yes! Thank god!"
Harris confirmed on Saturday, "David and I did propose to each other, but over five years ago! We've been wearing engagement rings for ages, waiting for an available date."
