Denise Richards Adopts Dog in Support of Superstorm Sandy Relief Efforts

Mark Sullivan/WireImage(NEW YORK) -- Stars from Snooki and Ben Stiller to Madonna and newlyweds Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel have been spotted giving back to the victims of superstorm Sandy, but now one star has announced she has taken something in to aid relief efforts on the East Coast.

Actress Denise Richards has added another animal to her well-documented brood of pets, adopting a dog from the North Shore Animal League in Long Island, N.Y., after an appearance there Friday to encourage others to take in the influx of abandoned pets displaced by the storm.

“Denise Richards visited North Shore Animal League America headquarters yesterday to provide vital help in spreading the word about our disaster relief efforts and encouraging adoptions,” the shelter, whose spokeswoman is Beth Stern, the wife of Howard Stern, posted on its Facebook page Saturday. “During their visit Denise and her family fell in love with Tara the Labrador Mutt-i-gree puppy and welcomed her into their home!”

Richards -- mom to two daughters, Lola and Sam with her ex-husband, Charlie Sheen, and a third daughter, Eloise, whom she adopted on her own -- has been in the New York City area for the past month filming the new pilot series Socio for the ABC Family Channel.

Last Thursday she tweeted, “Day off tomorrow. Heading to an animal shelter, to help out. Over 600 rescued from the hurricane. My girls are coming to help too.”

It was not immediately clear whether the puppy, which People.com reports Richards has renamed Lily, was one of the pets abandoned during Sandy or not.  A call placed to the North Shore Animal League for comment was not immediately returned.

A call placed to Richards’ publicist was also not returned as of this writing.

Richards, 41, told People in 2010 that her friends call her “Dr. Doolittle” for her love of animals.

“I swear, if there’s a dog stranded somewhere, he finds my car, and he finds me,” she told the magazine. “If anyone is looking to get a dog, they ask, ‘Can you help me?’”

Report: Charlie Sheen, Denise Richards Not Talking After NYC 'Nightmare'

ABC/RICHARD CARTWRIGHT(NEW YORK) -- Rumors recently swirled that a weekend Charlie Sheen spent with his ex-wife Denise Richards and their daughters Sam and Lola last month in New York City went awry, though at the time the Anger Management star's camp denied that he's back to partying hard.

However, The Huffington Post reports there was a big problem in the Big Apple between Sheen and Richards.

"New York was a nightmare," a friend tells HuffPo gossip guy Naughty But Nice Rob, and as a result, the stars -- who generally have been on good terms -- "have not spoken since then."

The source says of Sheen, "He didn’t see the kids in New York, except for the [Mets] game that they all attended.  It’s very, very sad.  Everyone around him tries so hard to keep the peace for the kids. But at times you have to step away.  There is so much that people don’t know.  Denise would have nothing to do with him if they didn’t have kids together."

ABC/RICHARD CARTWRIGHT(LOS ANGELES) -- Charlie Sheen is taking it easy this holiday season.  He's posted a series of pictures on Twitter of him with his ex-wife, Denise Richards, and their two daughters on a tropical vacation.

In another snapshot, Sheen, Richards and the kids are seen in the water petting a dolphin.

Sheen, however, did not disclose where exactly they are vacationing.

Last fall, the family went to New York, where Sheen reportedly abused alcohol and trashed his room at the Plaza Hotel.

Denise Richards Discusses Raising Kids During Charlie Sheen Debacle

Mark Sullivan/WireImage(LOS ANGELES) -- Everyone might have laughed at Charlie Sheen’s recent rants, but for his ex-wife Denise Richards, trying to raise her and Sheen’s two daughters through his public meltdown, it was anything but funny.

In an interview with ABC News, the actress said when her kids asked her what was going on with their dad she said, "I was lying so much to them and making excuses, and I just had to explain … what's been going on."

Richards went on to say that she eventually had to inform Sam and Lola of their father’s heavy drug use.

But now that things have calmed down, Richards says, "I take it day by day and today [Charlie and I] are in a really, really good place."

She added, “I think it's good … for the girls to see that we get along."

Are Denise Richards and Brooke Mueller BFFs?

ROBYN BECK/AFP/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) -- They may not be on his list of goddesses, but Charlie Sheen's ex-wives still have enough in common to strike up a friendship.  Brooke Mueller and Denise Richards have become pals, reports RadarOnline.com.  An insider said the pair chats "quite frequently" and they've even talked about getting their kids together for some play dates.  Mueller and Richards had planned to meet last week before Mueller fell off the wagon and wound up in rehab.

The source said, "Brooke and Denise talk quite frequently. It was Denise's idea to get together for dinner with Brooke with their children. Denise's children with Charlie, Sam and Lola, have spent time in the past with their half-siblings, Bob and Max.  Denise wants all the children to hang out together."

Richards is standing by Mueller, despite her recent problems.  The insider said, "Denise has reached out to Brooke since her relapse to offer her support.  Denise wants to have the girls spend time with their brothers, when she is assured that Brooke is sober, and wants it be a fun outing for everyone, with no drama.  It's about the kids forming a bond, and nothing else."

Charlie Sheen Has History of Pet Deaths

Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic(LOS ANGELES) -- Charlie Sheen and pets go together about as well as Charlie Sheen and his ex.

The former Two and a Half Men star, who has made vicious comments about ex-wife Denise Richards for her failure to give him back one of their dogs, has had other pets die while in his care, reports PopEater.com.  A source says, "His Chinese water dragon died because he didn't take care of it and a while back, when he was married to Brooke [Mueller], his bearded dragon fell in the pool and died.  Again nobody was watching the poor thing."

Sheen returned two pugs to Richards a while back, but one died of malnutrition.  He reportedly asked for the other to be returned to him to accompany him on his current tour, but Richards refused.

Sheen's Estranged Wife Gets Restraining Order; Kids Removed from Home

Photo Courtesy - Robyn Beck/AFP/ Getty Images(BEVERLY HILLS, Calif.) -- Charlie Sheen's estranged wife, Brooke Mueller, apparently isn't happy to share their twin boys with his two live-in girlfriends.

TMZ.com reports Mueller visited the Beverly Hills Police Department on Tuesday, hoping they can help her gain physical custody of the children.  However, she was told the department couldn't help her because Sheen doesn't live in Beverly Hills.

Later on Tuesday, TMZ reported Mueller obtained a restraining order requiring Sheen to stay 100 yards away from her.  It also prevents him from speaking to her.

The custody issue wasn't referenced in the order, but both People magazine and RadarOnline report police have removed Sheen's twin boys from his home and returned them to Mueller.  The report says police acted on instructions from a Los Angeles judge to reunite two-year-old twins Bob and Max with their mom.  The website quotes a source as saying Mueller "will have custody of the boys."

Sheen reportedly told RadarOnline as police removed the boys from his home, "My fangs are dripping tiger blood."

To further complicate matters, The Los Angeles Times reports police were summoned to Sheen's home Tuesday night by a security guard who said the actor's former wife Denise Richards had arrived at the house to check on the two daughters she shares with Sheen.  A source tells the newspaper those children were not removed from the home.  It's unclear if they were there to begin with.
