(SIERRA BLANCA, Texas) -- Actor Steven Seagal has been sworn in as a deputy in the Hudspeth County Sheriff’s Office in West Texas.
Apparently, he called the department himself about the job some two months ago.
Sheriff Arvin West said of Seagal, “He’s like the rest of us that live down here; he has a sincere passion for his country and he wants to do more to help.”
Seagal has been involved in law enforcement for years. The A&E series, Steven Seagal: Lawman, was based on his work with the sheriff’s department in Jefferson Parish, La.
A spokesman for Hudspeth County says TV is their “last priority,” according to the San Antonio Express-News, adding that Seagal "has a pure motive in doing this. He knows what we’re up against here and he wants to help.”
Seagal will begin his duties as “deputy chief to the chief deputy” next year.
