Drew Barrymore: A 'Fancy, Girly' Name Wouldn't Suit My Daughter

Photo by Jon Kopaloff/FilmMagic(LOS ANGELES) -- Drew Barrymore chose her daughter’s name -- Olive -- when she was three months pregnant, and, she says, it was more perfect than she ever could have predicted.

“If I had named her some very fancy girly name, it wouldn’t suit her,” she tells chef Eric Ripert on a recent episode of On the Table with Eric Ripert. “She is an Olive.”

Barrymore, who just launched her own wine collection, Barrymore Wines, explained that the inspiration for baby Olive’s name came from a pregnancy book that she and husband Will Kopelman had been reading.

“It always compared the size of the baby to a food item,” she says. “At one point we had just found out that it was a girl and it said, ‘Your baby is the size of an olive.’ And I was like, ‘Cheers! Done!’”

And since giving birth to Olive in September, the actress says she’s developed an obsession with cooking.

“I want to be able to throw things together for her in an effortless fashion,” says Barrymore. “I’m still at the stage when I’m cooking -- there’s like, flames going off behind me and alarms and I’m nervous and I’m not sexy, so I hope by the time that she’s ready to eat my food that I make it look like, ‘Sure honey, you want this? You got it.’”

It’s a Girl for Drew Barrymore

David Livingston/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) -- It’s a girl for Drew Barrymore.

The Big Miracle star and her husband, Will Kopelman, welcomed their first child, a baby girl named Olive, Sept. 26.

“We are proud to announce the birth of our daughter, Olive Barrymore Kopelman, born September 26th, healthy, happy and welcomed by the whole family,” the couple’s rep said in a statement to People magazine.  “Thank you for respecting our privacy during this most special time in our lives.”

The couple wed at Barrymore’s Montecito, Calif., home June 2. Wedding photos showed Kopelman clutching Barrymore’s pregnant belly. The actress was recently spotted around Los Angeles with a growing bump and attending prenatal yoga classes.

Barrymore has been vocal about her desire to have lots of children.

“I can’t wait until I have my children,” Barrymore told Haute Living in August. “I love the idea that they don’t have to do something that they have no interest in, that they can do something completely opposite if they want to. I will be so surprised if they don’t want to do something involving food or wine or art, but I’ll be OK with it. I just want to build fun, great things for my family.”

Drew Barrymore's Lips Are Sealed on Wedding, Pregnancy

David Livingston/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- For a person who's been hugely famous since she was six, Drew Barrymore certainly has been keeping her lips sealed about her personal life lately.

She's been in the public eye for most of her 37 years. Born into a legendary Hollywood family, Barrymore starred in her first film when she was just six years old, and wrote her autobiography when she was 14, after two stints in rehab.

Lately, though, she's been keeping mum about some of most important aspects of her personal life. In an age when the public often knows everything about a celebrity's life, Barrymore's has been a mystery lately.

She is reported to be getting married this weekend to her art consultant fiancé, Will Kopelman, but none of the publicly known details about the wedding (if there is one) have come directly from Barrymore herself. Requests for comment from Barrymore's management were not returned.

The small, private ceremony will take place on Barrymore's Montecito estate, attended only by close family and friends, E! senior news correspondent Melanie Bromley told ABC News.

It appears, according to E!, that the bride will wear a Chanel dress (she was recently spotted going for a final fitting at a Chanel boutique in LA, and Kopelman's father is the company's former CEO), and at least part of the wedding will take place outside (tents were seen being unloaded at the estate).

Since getting together more than a year ago, the couple have largely been holding their cards close, revealing little and rarely speaking publicly.

"For celebrities who have been open about relationships in the past, it's common for them to remain private when they feel they've found the real thing," Bromley told ABC. "And especially in this case, Drew's fiancé has never really been in the public eye before, he doesn't court publicity, he just happened to fall in love with a famous woman."

The near-silence is impressive when it comes to another aspect of Barrymore's life that is pretty tough to keep secret: her pregnancy.

In the months before her wedding, she's been seen on red carpets and out on the town with a growing baby bump.

Sources have confirmed to E! news that Barrymore is, in fact, pregnant, and the rumors have been flying around for months. Still, she hasn't said a public word about it.

Many celebrity moms-to-be are very open and public about becoming pregnant, being pregnant, giving birth, and their newborn children. Barrymore's keeping quiet though.

This would be her first child, which could be part of the reason she's being so private about the pregnancy.

"It's possible she doesn't want to jinx anything," Rachel Teitelbaum, Us Magazine Deputy News Editor told ABC News, "and is only speaking about it to close family and friends."

It's not clear how far along she is in the pregnancy, but Bromley says it was a factor in when they decided to get married.

"It was important for her to get married before giving birth, and before the bump started to show too much," Bromley said, "so this was a good time for them."

As for the wedding party, honeymoon plans, baby's gender, possible baby names? It's all a mystery.

Christian Bale Reveals He Once Dated Drew Barrymore

MARK RALSTON/AFP/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- The Dark Knight Rises star Christian Bale says he once dated Drew Barrymore, but the relationship ended quickly.

Bale tells the June-July issue of GQ Australia, “We went to see some bloody awful horror film, and that was the end of it. She never called again.”  Bale is now married to Sibi Blazic.

The two stars didn’t make a love connection, but they do have a Spielberg connection.  Barrymore first gained fame after appearing in Steven Spielberg’s 1982 sci-fi classic, E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial, and Bale made his big screen debut in Spielberg’s 1987 film Empire of the Sun.

The Dark Knight star also shares a caped crusader connection to Barrymore.  She portrayed Sugar in 1995′s Batman Forever.

On the subject of Batman, Bale tells the magazine, “I have been deeply honored to inhabit this character,” adding, “It was a massive undertaking, physically, emotionally, every way.”

The actor tells the magazine when they were in the final stages of filming The Dark Knight Rises, the latest, and what Bale says is his final Batman flick, he “stared at the cowl for a good long moment and thought, ‘Man, this one really took a life of its own.’”

The Dark Knight Rises opens nationwide July 20.

Drew Barrymore: ‘Proud’ of New Fiancé, Starting ‘Mid-Life Crisis’

Jon Kopaloff/FilmMagic(LOS ANGELES) -- Drew Barrymore, fresh off her recent engagement to art consultant Will Kopelman, the son of a former Chanel CEO, was all smiles and laughter while sharing details about her career and new romance.

“He is a really good person,” Barrymore said of her new fiancé. “I’m proud of my choice with him.”

It was a more refined Barrymore, full of excitement but with quieter satisfactions, than the actress we have come to know with her wild-child past. In her earlier years,  Barrymore had become infamous for her rebellious nature and whirlwind romances, having two short-lived marriages to Los Angeles bar owner Jeremy Thomas in 1994, and comic Tom Green in 2001.

When she sat down with Nightline for a recent interview in Los Angeles, the actress, 36, spoke of the newly discovered pleasure she finds in domestic pursuits like making soups and perfecting her lobster fra diavolo dish.

“I’ve always talked about how important it was to get a scene right or a shot right or, you know, to work with this great cinematographer and have a day-long conversation about storyboarding or this or that.  It’s nice to introduce soups into the mix,” Barrymore said with a laugh.

“Maybe because I started younger I’m going through the mid-life crisis now,” added the former child star. “I like the more, you know, just quiet and calm you can feel inside.”

Barrymore’s latest role is playing a Greenpeace volunteer in Big Miracle, a film based on true events from 1988 when three California grey whales were trapped underneath a massive swath of Alaskan ice.

“It was a really sort of a heartfelt story about a creature and it made me emotional and I liked that it gave me was something where people put their agendas aside to do something together and I would love to see that in the world,” said Barrymore.

While the film was shot on location in Alaska, Barrymore said the whales were actually animatronic puppets -- something she was familiar with.

“I know it sounds sort of, like, an insane person saying this, but I was so appreciative to work -- again, much like E.T. -- with something that is in the room,” she said.

Moviegoers have literally watched Barrymore grow up on the big screen. After landing her first major movie role at age 6 as the curious Gertie in Steven Spielberg’s 1982 blockbuster E.T., Barrymore went onto to become Hollywood royalty, starring in more than 50 films and producing almost a dozen.

Two of those films were a movie remake of Charlie’s Angels (2000) and sequel Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle (2003), and the actress said she would jump at the chance to make a third.

“We would all do it in a heartbeat, and yet it just isn’t ever really the right time,” Barrymore said. “Those movies are really long and hard to make. I mean, we all just have such good feelings about them.”

In recent years, Barrymore’s career has pivoted in a different direction. She played Little Edie Beale for HBO’s Grey Gardens, for which she won a 2010 Golden Globe, and directed her first movie, the 2009 roller derby romp Whip It!

“That was really terrifying, but so fun and so amazing,” Barrymore said. “I didn’t want to let that fear show because that doesn’t really do anybody any good. I think the key is to not make other people suffer while you suffer.”

The actress endured a tormented childhood off-camera. By age 13, Barrymore had twice been through extensive drug and alcohol rehab treatments. Looking back now, it’s a life Barrymore said she wouldn’t wish on her worst enemy.

“I was lost and scared and completely, you know -- just trying to figure everything out,” the actress said. “But what I did learn is humility and that things can go away.  You can be told all those things, but unless you really experience them, I’m not sure if I would’ve believed it as much.”

In this latest act of her personal life, Barrymore seems happy to embrace adulthood, and says achieving peace of mind is the most important thing.

“When you’re young, you’re always wondering when you’re actually going to feel like a grownup,” she said. "And I think you probably fear it, in a sense, too. There’s a danger to feeling like an adult … like this whimsical kid in you is going to die or something.  And then all of a sudden, one day you kind of feel like an adult and it’s really nice....That’s how I feel.”
