(NEW YORK) -- CBS on Tuesday officially announced the hiring of Charlie Rose and Oprah Winfrey's BFF Gayle King to help lead a new morning news program. Rose and King will join The Early Show holdover Erica Hill as anchors of an as-yet-untitled program launching Jan. 9 on a new set in New York City. It will air from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Eastern time.
CBS' interest in Rose and King had been rumored for weeks. Rose has hosted a PBS interview show for two decades and has contributed to CBS' 60 Minutes. King currently hosts a radio show that is simulcast on Oprah's cable network.
Current Early Show anchor Jeff Glor has been reassigned as a special correspondent. Early Show co-host Chris Wragge will not be retained on the program, but will remain at CBS.
CBS' morning news program has consistently trailed NBC's Today show and ABC's Good Morning America in the ratings.
