Demi Lovato Admits She Still Struggles with Cutting, Eating Issues

ABC/Heidi Gutman(NEW YORK) -- In her Stay Strong documentary that aired on MTV Tuesday night, former Disney star Demi Lovato opened up about the physical and mental issues she's suffering from, saying her fans -- and her music -- keep her on track.

Lovato underwent treatment in October 2010 for self-cutting and eating disorder issues, and the "Skyscraper" singer told fans she's not out of the woods yet.

"I cannot tell you that I have not thrown up since treatment," Lovato confesses.  "I cannot tell you that I have not cut myself since treatment.  I'm not perfect.  It's a daily battle."

The star also admitted she had to stay on the phone with her addiction sponsor during Thanksgiving so she would be dissuaded from throwing up her meal.  She hoped coming clean about her challenges would inspire other girls who may be going through her same issues.

Lovato, who found out she is bipolar, says her fans, and especially her music "give me a reason to live."

"Every time someone asks me for a picture or an autograph, even if I'm having a bad day and I'm in a bad mood, I remember, 'You're nothing without this person,'" she said.  "They make it special."´╗┐

Demi Lovato Reveals Struggle with Eating Disorder

Jason Merritt/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Two and a half months after leaving rehab, Demi Lovato has revealed the reason why she sought treatment. Serving as guest editor for Seventeen magazine, she reveals that she's been battling an eating disorder, according to

Lovato says, "It's very crucial that you get your feelings out -- but don't ever inflict harm on your own body because your body is so sacred. I wish I could tell every young girl with an eating disorder, or who has harmed herself in any way, that she's worthy of life and that her life has meaning. You can overcome and get through anything." Lovato says she's still attempting to overcome her own disorder, disclosing, "Yes, there have been times when I definitely have been tempted to get rid of my dinner. But I will deal with it for the rest of my life because it's a life-long disease."

The 18-year-old Disney star says she's adopted a new outlook on life since leaving rehab. She says, "I live my life every day, and if I feel like wearing combat boots one day and shoes the next, I will. I allow myself a lot of freedom and I'm very peaceful now."

This is the first time Lovato has publicly discussed her struggle. Previously, her rep only said that the actress/singer had sought treatment for "emotional and physical issues."
