Is Elisabeth Hasselbeck Leaving "The View"?

ABC/Donna Svennevik(NEW YORK) -- Now that Joy Behar has announced she's leaving The View, will Elisabeth Hasselbeck follow in her footsteps?

A publicist for The View tells ABC News Radio, "Elisabeth Hasselbeck is a valued member of The View and has a long-term contract."  That statement is in response to reports on Friday that claimed the conservative co-host's contract was not renewed for next season.

In one of those online reports, a source tells Us Weekly that Hasselbeck is being let go after market research concluded that she just isn't popular with television audiences.

The source says, "The viewers they polled all said she was too extreme and right wing.  People did not watch the show because of Elisabeth.  So they told her yesterday her contract would not be renewed."

Furthermore, sources tell ShowBiz411.com that Brooke Shields will likely join the cast of The View.  Sources explain that the actress is a Princeton graduate, articulate and a 47-year-old mom, which makes her a perfect fit for the show.

Hasselbeck, a former Survivor contestant, joined The View in November 2003.

Last Thursday, Behar announced she was exiting The View after more than 16 years.  The 70-year-old says she plans to explore other opportunities.  Behar currently hosts Joy Behar: Say Anything! on Current TV.

Photo Courtesy - ABC/Barwall(NEW YORK) -- Daytime Emmy Award winner and The View co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck will join ABC’s Good Morning America as a contributor, covering hot-button family, lifestyle and child-rearing issues for the morning broadcast. Her first report, which will air on Monday, October 11, will look at kids and tattoos- - the dangers and the alternatives, as well as how parents should handle kids who come to them begging for one. Hasselbeck will also look at the growing trend of parents and kids getting tattoos together.

“I am thrilled to join the Good Morning America team, and I am thankful for this opportunity to raise awareness and explore the most important issues facing parents and children,” said Hasselbeck.

“Elisabeth brings a very distinctive style and unique perspective that fits well with the broadcast,” said Good Morning America Executive Producer Jim Murphy.

Hasselbeck joined ABC’s The View as co-host in November 2003. In May 2009, the show's hosts were chosen as one of the “100 Most Influential People in the World” by Time. In July 2009, Forbes ranked The View number 11 among “30 of the Most Influential Women in Media."

Hasselbeck is the author of the New York Times best seller, The G-Free Diet, and a designer of a women’s apparel line for QVC called Elisabeth Hasselbeck for Dialogue.  She previously was host of the Style Network's The Look for Less, where she helped viewers find designer styles at bargain prices.
