Jennifer Lopez Says New Series "The Fosters" Is Like Her Own Family

Photo by Steven Lawton/FilmMagic(LOS ANGELES) -- Jennifer Lopez is an actress, singer and dancer, but now she's putting on her executive producer hat for a new ABC Family series called The Fosters.

Speaking about the show on Wednesday's Good Morning America, Lopez said, "This is definitely a non-traditional sort of family. This really has base themes that are important, which is family equals love, a place where you are accepted, completely, loved unconditionally, protected."

The Fosters, starring Teri Polo and Sherri Saum as the multi-ethnic moms, features one biological child, an adopted set of twins and a teenager the couple takes in as a foster child.  For 43-year-old Lopez, who raises 5-year-old twins Emme and Max with ex-husband Marc Anthony, Lopez admits the series reflects her own family in many ways.

"Yes, me being a single mom, their dad doesn’t live at home with them. They have three step-brothers from two other moms. You know what I mean? That’s not traditional," she explained.

Lopez split from Anthony, her third husband, in July 2011, when Max and Emme were three. She's now dating her backup dancer and choreographer, Casper Smart, who, at 25, is 18 years her junior. The couple is often sighted together with Max and Emme, but when it comes to tying the knot, Lopez said that won’t happen “anytime soon.”

"Listen, there is no perfect what family is supposed to be. It’s about love," Lopez said on GMA. "And that’s what I constantly remind myself of because I kind of let society kind of get in my head as well, 'Oh, it shouldn’t be like this. I failed. I did this, I did that.' And it’s like, no. [The kids are] happy, they’re healthy, they’re loved more than anything in the world and they’re going to be fine. I want them to know that."

So, can we expect Lopez to step out from behind the camera and appear on The Fosters?  "I don't know. I feel the show stands on its own," she says of a potential guest spot. "Of course, I’ll do whatever I can to make sure people know it’s out there and they watch it, but is a cameo the perfect way to do that? Maybe, maybe not. I don’t know. Whatever happens, I’m up for."

The Fosters premieres on ABC Family on June 3 at 9 p.m. Eastern time.

Will Smith on Fame and Family

Photo by Jun Sato/WireImage(LOS ANGELES) -- Will Smith and his son Jaden co-star in the upcoming sci-fi drama After Earth, their second on-screen pairing after 2006's Pursuit of Happyness.

Fourteen-year-old Jaden and his younger sister Willow are following in their parents' footsteps with careers in music and movies, and the father-son duo spoke to New York magazine about their relationship on and off the big screen. Jaden and Willow's mom is actress Jada Pinkett Smith.

When asked if Jaden could have been a dentist instead of an actor, Will Smith replies, "It may seem like we have pushed our kids into the business, but that is absolutely insane. I would never, ever, push somebody to have their face on a poster that’s going be everywhere in the world. He is making a choice from the informed."

The elder Smith adds, "It's less scary to me than if he wanted to be a dentist in that I couldn’t help with what he'd chosen. I have relationships with some of the biggest filmmakers and actors and producers on Earth. So I can be a huge help."

Will notes that his daughter Willow chose to sing and then she changed her mind and he respected her decision. He explained, "At the peak of 'Whip My Hair,' she's like, 'Daddy, I'm done.' I was like, 'Wow, wow, wow. No, baby, I got Annie -- the upcoming movie remake, you know. It’ll be New York, you'll be with Beyoncé. You can bring your friends.' And she said, 'Daddy, I got a better idea. How about I just be 12?' At the end of the day, it has to be their choice."

Will was also asked about his family's similarities to the Kardashian family, who have essentially treated their fame as the family business. He responded, "We are trying to put great things into the world, we’re trying to have fun, and we're trying to become the greatest versions of ourselves in the process of doing things we love. So the idea of fame or exploitation or orchestrating the media is sometimes even less than desirable for us."

After Earth opens nationwide May 31.

William Balfour Found Guilty in Jennifer Hudson Family Murder Trial

(CHICAGO) -- A jury has found William Balfour guilty of murdering actress Jennifer Hudson's mother, brother and 7-year-old nephew in 2008.

Balfour, 30, was accused of killing the three in a jealous rage, believing that his estranged wife, Julia Hudson, Jennifer Hudson's sister, was dating another man.

The jury found Balfour guilty of all counts against him after some 18 hours of deliberations over three days.

Balfour, charged with three counts of first-degree murder and additional charges including kidnapping and burglary, pleaded not guilty. Convicted on all counts, he now faces life in prison.

Jennifer Hudson, her fiance and her sister, Julia Hudson, entered the courtroom shortly before the verdict was to be read. The verdict came shortly after the jury told the judge that it was split, prompting the judge to tell jury members to resume deliberations in hopes of reaching an agreement.

The trial began on April 23 in Chicago. Prosecutors called more than 80 witnesses over two weeks, and the defense rested its case after 30 minutes, calling only two witnesses to the stand. Balfour did not testify.

Prosecutors alleged that Balfour fatally shot Hudson's mother Darnell Donerson, 57, in her living room, and then shot Hudson's brother Jason Hudson, 29, as he lay in bed. He then kidnapped Hudson's nephew Julian King, who was 7. Investigators believe the boy was shot in the head as he lay behind the front seat of an SUV.

Prosecuting State Attorney Veryl Gambino said Balfour was in a state of rage over Julia Hudson's dating another man, and said Balfour had issued several threats against her and her family. Balfour allegedly was enraged Oct. 24, 2008, after he saw balloons another man sent to Julia Hudson and punched them.

The killings happened in the family home in Chicago's tough Englewood neighborhood, where Jennifer Hudson grew up.

Tracy Morgan Responds to Report of Mom Facing Foreclosure

Andrew H. Walker/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Tracy Morgan refuses to engage in a public war of words with his family, following claims made by his sister that he hasn't done enough to support their mother, who could soon face foreclosure.

Morgan's 61-year-old mother, Alicia Warden, recently told the New York Daily News she owes nearly $25,000 on her home in northeast Ohio. Warden said she's been informed that foreclosure proceedings will begin on Feb. 23 if she does not make a minimum mortgage payment by then.

Warden said her son offered her two thousand dollars, but she turned him down. She explained to the Daily News, "I’m not some person in the street.”

Morgan's sister, Asia Morgan, argues that the 30 Rock star is in position to help out their mother, but hasn't come through. Pointing out that Warden is battling health issues, including diabetes, Asia Morgan told the Daily News, “This would be a drop in the bucket for Tracy. She has a son that can do, and she’s done everything that she could possibly could for her family.” She claimed that Morgan has "never been a nice person," and calls him a "d*****bag."

In a statement obtained by E! Online, Morgan says he is "saddened that these untrue stories about me have people questioning my commitment to my family." He continues, "For reasons that are between us, I have not seen my mother in 11 years and outside of a random call here and there have had little to no contact with my sister."

Morgan noted in his 2009 book I Am the New Black that he was estranged from most of his family, including his mother.

Oprah Reveals 'Bombshell' Family Secret

Photo Courtesy - Oprah Winfrey/ABC News(CHICAGO) -- Oprah Winfrey promised to reveal a family secret on Monday's edition of her talk show and she certainly delivered.

The talk show queen revealed she has a half-sister -- a 47-year-old mother-of-two named Patricia who lives in Milwaukee.

Oprah said she had learned the "bombshell family secret," which "shook her to her core," right before Thanksgiving.  Patricia had been given up for adoption as a baby in 1963, but didn't get information about her biological family until recently when she began trying to track down her birth mother.  That's when Patricia came to learn she shares the same mother as Oprah.  They have different fathers.

Oprah drove to Milwaukee over Thanksgiving to meet Patricia.  She also said their mother, Vernita Lee, never told anyone she had given Patricia up for adoption.

Oprah said she revealed the news because there was no way the media wouldn't get hold of the story and she wanted to disclose the information to her viewers herself.
