'Breaking Dawn' Has Fifth Largest Domestic Opening Weekend

Andrew Cooper © 2011 Summit Entertainment, LLC.(LOS ANGELES) -- Summit Entertainment's "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1" grossed $139.5 million in the United States and $144 million abroad, making it the fifth largest opening in the domestic box office.

The film trampled the Warner Bros. comedy "Happy Feet Two," which took in just $22 million stateside.

New 'Twilight' Film, 'Happy Feet Two' in Theaters Friday

-- The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn -- Part 1: In the fourth film in the wildly popular series, Kristen Stewart's Bella and Robert Pattinson's Edward tie the knot, then discover she's pregnant with his vampire child.  The pregnancy puts her in the crosshairs of the wolves, though Taylor Lautner's werewolf character, Jacob, vows to protect her.  Ashley Greene, Kellan Lutz, Nikki Reed and Jackson Rathbone also return for the film.  Rated PG-13.  [Click here to read a review]

-- Happy Feet Two: The sequel to the 2006 animated film again features Elijah Wood as the voice of the tap-dancing penguin Mumble.  His son doesn't really dance, and is more drawn to another penguin who can fly.  However, Mumble begins to win over his son when he leads the penguin nations against "powerful forces."  Robin Williams, Hank Azaria, Sofia Vergara, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and pop star Pink also lend their voices to the film, which is screening in 3D.  Rated PG.
