'High School Musical' Star Sued by Movie Financiers

David Livingston/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) -- Corbin Bleu helped make High School Musical a hit, but now he’s being sued for allegedly failing to help another film achieve success.

TMZ.com reports the financiers of the 2008 movie Free Style filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court Thursday against Corbin, Samuel Goldwyn Films and others, claiming the 22-year-old actor failed to properly promote the film.

Third Eye Capital and Strative Capital claim Corbin was contractually bound to publicize the film but he “refused and failed to perform those services” and as a result, the movie tanked.  TMZ reports Free Style earned just $463 in its opening weekend and went on to earn just over $141,000 in a month.

According to court papers, the financiers put up more than $8.5 million for a film that earned a worldwide total of $1.3 million.

The plaintiffs are seeking $12 million in damages.

Efron and Hudgens, who both skyrocketed to fame in the High School Musical franchise, started dating in 2006. The breakup comes at a particularly bad time for Hudgens -- she turns 22 on Tuesday.  Efron is currently filming a movie called The Lucky One in New Orleans, while Hudgens shoots Journey 2: The Mysterious Island in Hawaii.
