NFL, 'Dancing' Star Hines Ward Handcuffed in Police Misunderstanding

Ronald C. Modra/Sports Imagery/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) -- The Pittsburgh Steelers' "silent assassin" Hines Ward found himself on the wrong end of a gun Thursday morning in Los Angeles -- but it was all a big misunderstanding.

TMZ reports that the Dancing with the Stars celebrity was riding in a car with a female driver at around 2 a.m. when LAPD officers pulled the vehicle over.  It seems the cops ran the license plate of the car and realized that it had been reported stolen.  TMZ reports that the officers drew their weapons and ordered Ward and the driver out of the car and handcuffed them.  But the female driver explained that the car was actually hers -- it had been stolen, but she had gotten it back and forgotten to inform the police.

The officers were able to verify the driver's story, according to TMZ, and let her and Hines leave.  Law enforcement sources told TMZ that Hines was "very cooperative and understanding" about the mishap.
